Rena slowly opened her eyes and looked around. The light above her was soft, and on the bedside table next to her was a small potted plant. Covering the windows was a set of black curtains that prevented her from looking outside.
"Where am I?" she murmured.
"You are at St. Paul's Hospital," a nurse said as she entered Rena's room. "And I'm glad that you have finally woken up."
Rena stared at the nurse as the nurse adjusted her IV drip, which she realized she had in her arm. She also noticed that she wore a hospital gown.
Victor stepped into the room wearing his police uniform, a look of concern on his face. "Rena, do you feel better?" he asked.
"I do. I thought that I was in the afterlife for a moment," Rena replied weakly.
