8Warmth spread through me. I stepped back, stopping the doors from closing. Self-preservation. I’d have suffocated if I’d been shut inside. I moved back farther, into the hallway. Andy followed me off the elevator. The doors closed behind him. “Casey,” he said again. He rubbed a hand over his hair. The brown strands were peppered with gray.
