chapter one, my birthday
I wake up from a night mare I’m covered in cold sweats my hair sticking yo my forehead. I look around my room to see my siblings moving slightly on their beds. I try and calm my shaky nerves but I can’t shake the uneasy feeling in the bottom of my stomach. I lay back down im the dark and look at the ceiling above me trying to fall back asleep. I finally fall asleep but when the sun rises I wake up from the same nightmare. I sit up and get off my bed care full to not wake my sister. I creep out of my room and walk into the living room as I grab the brush and brush out my long black hair the curls bouncing to life as the brush runs through them. I put my hair in a high pony tail my curls falling to my shoulders now. I set the brush down and hear foot steps from one of the rooms before I hear the door to my room open. I turn around and see my younger sister her blonde hair laying flat on her head. “Morning.” She wishpers careful not to be to loud. “Morning” I whisper as I try and hide my nerves. “Why are you up so early on your birthday?” She asks “Oh I don’t know I just couldn’t sleep.” I whisper as I look into her blue eyes. “Oh well I over heard mom and dad talking about you have something special going on today cause its our birthday I wonder what I will be.” She says her eyes filling with wonder. “I don’t know sage but it probably is different from what you think.” I whisper “now why are you up now?” “Because I wanted to get up early and surprise you with breakfast when you woke up raven.” Sage says moving a piece of her blonde hair. “Why?” Raven asks “Because since I am twelve and can start to cook I thought I would cook since your sixteen now.” She says a smile forming on her lips. I pause and look down “yeah…. I’m .. sixteen now.” I say my voice falling. “What’s wrong with being sixteen?” Sage asks “Oh nothing just life is going to change now.” I say “but for now how about you go get dressed.” I say looking down at her. “Okay what should I wear?” She questions. “How about that flower dress you have I mean it is summer and we wouldn’t want you getting to hot now would we.” I say as I try and ignore the thoughts swirling in my head. “Okay.” Sage says cheerfully before she and I quietly walk back to our room. As we are in our room sage searches for the flower dress as I put on a black tank top with black jeans with cuts through out it. Over it I pull on a black leather jacket pulling my hair from it and putting on some black heel boots. Once I finish getting dressed I look over at sage who has put her hair in a headband with sunflowers all over it that matches her dress. I sit on my bed and wait until our parents open the door for our room and walk in completely dressed both of them wearing a tshirt and jeans with tennis shoes. “Good morning.” My mother says flatly. “Morning.” I say as I’m kind of out of it. “Morning.” My little sister says her voice cheery as always. I keep sitting on my bed as I stare out my window knowing what’s coming for the day. My sister still young has no clue what is happening now that I turned sixteen. ‘I wish I could be her age once more and not have this pressure’ I think to myself before I look over at my parents. “Are we ready to go.” My mother says her voice showing she wants to leave. “Sage hasn’t eaten breakfast yet.” I say trying to stall. “When we drop you off she can get breakfast now get up come on.” My mother says trying to get us out of the house. Is high and get up along with sage who is still clueless about what is going to happen to me. With each step to the front door and to the car I feel dread trying to pull me back into my bed so I can pass this day and never see it after. As we sit in the back seat of the car my father driving the sun starts rising higher in the sky it starts to hit my lap lighting my hands with the gold hue it gives off. I look over at my sister as she watches out her window to see the hills and grass lands turn to water and more hills and plains. After a few moments I look back down at my lap the sun still rising high in the sky. After what feels like forever we finally make it to a building and my mother and I et out of the car together. “Now remember raven you need to get light width because you are like your father so don’t try and be a dark witch if you aren’t strong enough for that…. I don’t need you to shame this family name.” My mother says as we walk up to the doors. “How do we know sage isn’t the good witch out of us I mean look at her.” I say as I eep looking forward trying to avoid my mothers gaze. “Because raven you are like your dad and your sister is like me so she will have a dark witch and you will have a light witch so I don’t know why you dressed like this today you will give everyone the wrong idea of who you are.” My mother says before stopping at the door. “Now stop arguing with me and go become a light witch and stop acting like this.” She says before we enter.
