Asher's POV
"Right now? You want me to head all they way across town to do a drug deal at this time of night?" I question the person on the other side of the phone.
He growls and I can practically picture him rolling his eyes. I groan while rolling mine then rub my face, frowning while holding the phone to my ear.
"Please Fields. I never ask you to do anything. This is really important. Life or death important. Just head near the sports bar. It's the next block over. Go now," he says and ends the call.
I roll out of my bed, groaning yet again when I see it's already after eleven o'clock. I had just got home from doing a drug run in the rich side of town after working in the shop all day. All I want to do is sleep, but I guess Ross has other plans for me.
After throwing on some clothes, I grab what I need and head out the door. As I start to near the bar, I hear muffled voices arguing, but I shake my head, telling myself to stay away. It's not my business. Ignoring them, I keep on walking, wanting to get this over with to get back home.
"No! Please, I'm sorry!" the girl yells and I stop in my tracks. Her melodic voice captures my full attention. "No you stupid b***h!" he screams in her face, raising his hand. "You f*****g ruined my plans tonight!" he hollers, hitting her with such force she falls to the ground.
Something inside of me snaps and I pull out my gun, shooting the guy in the leg. His cries along with hers fill my ears and I groan in frustration. "s**t," I mumble in annoyance. I pull out my phone and dial my friend's number, rubbing my face.
"What happened?" He asks, panic in his voice. "Where are you?" I ask, but he ends the call instead of replying. What the f**k? The back door of the bar opens and Ross comes running out, looking around frantically.
"s**t!" He yells when he sees the current situation. "Sierra?" Ross questions and she looks up with sad eyes. "Was this your plan? To have some guy come pop up shooting like crazy?!" She yells, standing tall.
"Yes and no. I knew he couldn't walk away from the situation so I had him think he was doing something else so he could stumble upon you, but right now I need you to go with him while I deal with Austin. Okay?" He asks her and she narrows her eyes.
"Fine, but it just seems like I'm bound to end up with a monster either way," she whispers, clearly talking about me. "I'm not thrilled either sweetheart. I have a life and I could have went without coming this way," I tell her and her hard exterior drops.
"I'm sorry, that was rude of me. Thank you," she tells me and I sigh, running my hands through my hair. "It's okay. Just come on, I don't live far. You can have my bed tonight," I tell her, inwardly wanting to just send her away.
Me - Why the f**k are you involving this girl in our world? Who is she?
Ross - I'll explain tomorrow. Keep her safe.
Me - Ok
She silently walks along the side of me, limping every so often. "You okay?" I question and she gasps, clutching her chest. "You scared me," she says quickly and I chuckle, earning a glare from her in return. The look in her eyes is enough for me to know she isn't in the mood for jokes.
"For real though? I saw that you were limping. Are you hurt?" I ask and she shrugs. "I'm not sure. When I fell, I hit my ankle but I didn't think anything of it. It wasn't hurting at the moment, but I'll be okay. How much further do we have to walk?" She asks and I shake my head, in awe with this girl already.
"Not far. My apartment is around the corner. So how do you know Ross? And who was that other guy?" I question and she sighs, clearly irritated with me. "Can I explain in your apartment?" She asks and I nod my head, gesturing for her to stop walking.
"We're here. Stay close to my side. This isn't a safe side of town and they have very dangerous people in this building. Understand?" I question and she nods, positioning herself by my side.
"Yes. May I?" She asks, motioning to my hand. "Sure," I tell her, jumping slightly when her small cold hand grabs mine. The feeling kind of terrifies me.
