Fitzhugh strode across the farm’s courtyard under the watchful glare of a growing number of Australian soldiers. With half a salute to the guards stationed outside, he entered the ancient stone barn and made his way to the only locked door in the building. ‘Open the door, please,’ he said, not so much ordering the guards inside, but asking politely.
