“This is Jasmine Murphy. My mate.’’ Mason smiled, I bowed my head. I didn’t know how to act around royalty. Suddenly, someone came and hugged me. I was taken aback. “Jasmine, it’s very nice to meet you.’’ The queen said with a smile. She rubbed my shoulders. “It’s an honor to meet you, my queen.’’ I bowed again, she laughed looking up at the king. “So, my son tells me he hit you with his car.’’ The king laughs. I smile slightly. I feel like I was suffocating, there’s so much power around me. “it was a mistake.’’ “I know. The universe certainly has a weird way of uniting mates.’’ They laughed, and I joined in. “So, Jasmine. We understand that you are a rogue. Homeless and without a pack origin. We’re willing to look past that. My son is going to be king in a few months, he doesn’t need to marry up. There’s no up from here.’’ “Dad.’’ Mason interrupted, he rubbed his temples, looking annoyed. “The queen will guide you through most of the formalities. We’ll announce that my son has found a mate and you’ll be married in three days.’’ I gasped, shocked at the time frame. “Do you have a problem with that?’’ The king turned to me, I bowed my head in embarrassment. “No sir.’’ “Then it’s settled, we’ll have a big human wedding, as per the request of Mason, then a traditional union later that night.’’ I smiled, bowing my head. I had nothing to say. This was indeed what I wanted. A fresh start and a second chance to be happy. “Mason, come with me.’’ The Alpha King pulls Mason away, leaving me standing with the queen. I felt intimidated. She was clearly very powerful, I was inferior to her. “I understand… your situation.’’ She struggled with her words, I looked up, trying to understand. “You’re pregnant.’’ It suddenly made sense. The quick marriage, the unbothered parents. “I couldn’t be any happier. You’re carrying my grandchild. You’re going to be future queen and you’ll make my son happy, I can tell.’’ I felt guilty for lying to her like this. What would happen when she discovers that my baby doesn’t belong to Mason. That i wasn't even his mate. She touches my arm, she smiles. Her smile radiates my soul, making me feel like there wasn’t need to be this worried. “I can tell you’re hiding something. You’re clearly worried. But don’t be. I know that being a rogue has pushed you to live like an animal. But you’re going to be royalty now. And I’ll walk you through everything you need to know so you can be the perfect queen.’’ I felt like I wanted to cry. It felt like I was talking to my mother. Her care and acceptance of me, how she didn’t judge me. She welcomed me. “Thank you, my queen. I won’t let you down.’’ “I know you won’t, darling. You’re already so perfect.’’ She touches my cheeks, smiling so much. I let out a deep breath, feeling relieved. Feeling ready to face anything life throws at me. Mason approached us, smiling at his mom as he spoke. “I suppose you two have gotten well acquainted, I’d like to steal my mate now.’’ The queen laughed as she let go of my hand. “Well you two lovebirds have fun.’’ Mason’s hand was pressed on my lower back. He made me feel nervous. I couldn’t believe this. I was getting married to my doctor, the man who hit me with his car. How had everything changed so quickly? “With my father, you’ll find him rather difficult.’’ Mason said as he led me down the stairs. “He seemed pleasant.’’ I smiled, feeling happy. “Really? Wow, because he was being very strict and skeptical back there. Well, I guess i chose the right one for this job then.’’ I felt flattered. And he was right, this was a job. I stood to lose everything if this didn’t work. I was ready to live this lie like it was my reason to breathe. “So, are you excited for our wedding?’’ His question caught me off guard, I paused, thinking deeply. “It’s just a small ceremony right?’’ Mason broke out laughing. It could almost be heard outside. I didn’t understand what was so funny. “Darling, have you met my mother? She’ll make it look like a fairytale ball.’’ “But there’s only three days to prepare.’’ I argued. “And she’s the queen. Leave everything to her. All you get to do is show up. Trust me, Jane Doe.’’ “I thought we agreed you stop calling me that. I'm not a stranger anymore.’’ I frowned, scrunching my nose. “It’s fun. It reminds me that my future wife was once a stranger in a wedding dress that I hit with my car.’’ He laughed, and I joined. We walked out of the palace. I smiled, feeling at peace. For the first time in my life, I was worried about being liked or accepted. “Ever ridden a horse?’’ Mason looks at me. He leads me towards a ranch, where there’s a large number of stables. I shake my head, he takes my hand, leading me inside. The horses were big and beautiful. The stables were kept neater than the rogue camps I’d sleep in. “Here, come meet Molly.’’ I walked to Mason, he was touching a brown beautiful horse with white hair. “Give me your hand, darling.’’ “I thought we agreed to a first name basis.’’ “If you’re going to be my wife, darling, I’ll call all the names that make your cheeks red.’’ I looked down, avoiding his eyes. I gave him my hand, and he slowly led it to the horse. I was scared, at first, but as soon as I rested my hand on the horse's head, I calmed down. “Close your eyes.’’ He came to stand behind me, his hand was firm on the mine. I closed my eyes. I could hear a heartbeat like it was mine. I felt like I could feel more than just its heart. I could feel its emotions. The horse was calm, content. “I didn’t know we could do that.’’ I smiled, looking up at Mason. “Alphas can, but an Alpha of Alpha’s can extend that gift temporarily to someone.’’ His eyes met mine, he paused, he stared down at my lips, and then looked at me. We stayed like that for a brief moment, then he kissed me, catching me off guard. The kiss was short, not anything I expected. His lips were soft, it gave me different feelings. He pulled away, smiling. “That’s another thing you need to get used to.’’ He laughed, then he opened the door to the stable. He led the horse outside, still holding my hand. I didn’t know how to feel. That kiss made me want to touch my lips. Mason got on top of the horse, he looked back at me, he stretched his hand. “Come on, let’s go horse riding.’’ I smiled back at him, I took his hand, and he pulled me up with him.
