"You okay, ma'am?" The stranger asked as he passed me at the bus stop. "Yes, I'm fine." I lied so he would leave me alone; I held my jacket firmly against my back, shielding me from the nipping breeze. "Alright, well, have a good night."
'Good night? No, this has been the most f****d up night of my life.' So I thought to myself as he walked away. I looked at my heels, one broken and the other smudged to hell. 'When was this bus getting here?' I peeked out at the street; I had been here for an hour now...
My phone buzzed in my jacket pocket. My gut tightened, knowing who it was. 'Nope, not going to answer.' I told myself as I wiped my eyes, smudging my eyeliner on the back of my hand. I wanted to fall to the floor and give up on everything, on life, on love; I just wasn't worth it to anyone...
I stood up in my broken heels and blue dress and headed out into the street; it was pitch black, no cars, no buses. I fell to my knees; my chest heaved as I started to sob my heart out. I pounded the ground with my fists. I was so done...
"You're going to get hit if you stay out there, love."
I turned to see the stranger had come back around; his hood was down, revealing his locks of dark brown curls. I rolled my eyes at him. "I wish a car would hit me, "I said aloud for him to hear.
"Rough night?" He asked.
I scoffed and said," More like rough life," then pity laughed at myself; I went from a mother who didn't give a damn about anyone. Still, herself to a father who was never there, from then on, I have been a clinging koala, grasping on to any branch it could find...addition to being men and the koala being me, and that's how I landed a shitty ex-boyfriend.
My body felt heavy and numb. I probably cried so much my tear ducts were empty. "Want to talk about it?" He asked with a pouty face.
I glared at him, "f**k off, I've had enough of men, and I don't need your help, so get lost," I snapped back.
He straightened up, chuckled at me, and shook his head while smiling. "So, this is how you want to die? Being run over by a car? That would be a sad thing to write on your tombstone. 'Here lies...whatever your name is, she was run over on purpose."
I looked at the curious stranger that was Infront of me, was he on something, or was he just making fun of me. Either way, he seemed like a d**k.
"What is your name anyway?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes once again and sighed. 'Oh, here we go...'
"Dove," I said, waiting for the reaction my name had on people; my mother thought it was 'cool' at the time.
I could tell he was holding back laughter. "Dove? Aren't Doves supposed to stand for innocence and purity? You look like a train wreck, sweetheart."
"Doves are just pigeons that look prettier."
He snorted laughter; his laughter was light and airy. I found myself liking how it sounded. "So, Dove, you still want to get railed?"
I giggled because of the way he said it. 'Me and my immature thoughts, even when I felt broken,' I thought to myself.
I sniffled, wiping my tears away. "Thanks, but I just-I'm tired of trying." I pulled my knees up to the chest. I was so tired of the stupid hopefulness that I wanted to believe he was not the same, but I was wrong.
"Well, if your dead set on not living, can I suggest something in-between?" He stepped off the sidewalk towards me.
"Who are you anyway?" I asked, wondering if I should have his name before something unspeakable happens to me...
Sadly, right now, I was too drunk in my pity to care. "Answer the question, first love," he squatted down to me, his hand in his leather jacket pockets. Now that he was closer, I could see his face better; he had a wicked smile, one that could charm the panties off any woman; his face was unworldly perfect; Jesus f**k, this guy could have come from one of my supernatural, steamy romance novels I read.
"What do you mean in-between?" I asked; he c****d his head; his eyes were a dazzling green.
He stood up before answering, "Hm, someone is coming, a friend of yours?" He asked; I got up, and as I saw the sleeked-back blond hair, I hid behind the strange man.
"Oh, god, he came out here to find me?!" I harshly whispered to myself.
"Whom do you speak of? This man here?" The stranger asked; I nodded, hoping he would just go away.
"Dove! I know you are here! I have a location device set up on your phone!" Brad shouted as he held up his phone in the air.
The strange man turned slightly, smirking at me," A lover of yours?" He teased.
"No. not anymore."
"Oh? Then I suppose this is the person you are trying to hide from?"
"Uh, yeah, let's go with that." I was not about to lay out my whole f****d up relationship with someone I didn't know, especially someone I had just met.
"Hey, you! Have you seen a girl around here? She's a real eyesore," Brad said.
My jaw dropped, "Well f**k you to Brad," I uttered under my breath.
"No, actually, I haven't."
The stranger said, Brad being the testosterone-fueled asshole he was, marched up to the stranger with his chest puffed out, "Oh yeah? Cause I can see her location right here."
The stranger shrugged," Hm, well, maybe she threw it away in the trash," Brad scoffed before going and checking the garbage by the bus bench.
"Watch this, love," the stranger whispered to me; I peeked out from behind him as Brad came marching back to him.
"You think this is funny? I can kick your ass, man! Tell me where she is!" He yelled; I flinched out of habit...
"Hm, you know, you may want to check that trash can one more time..." The stranger said as he placed a hand on Brad's shoulder; I double blinked because I swear to god, I thought I saw a glowing pink light underneath this man's hand. Brad blinked a couple of times then looked back at the trash can. "Yeah, uh maybe, maybe your right."
Brad slowly walked up to the trash can; he slowly put his hand into it and then bent down to kiss it.
"What the-Ewe!" I whispered harshly; good Lord, tell me I have not been kissing Brad when his kink was trash cans!? I wanted to gag.
"Not to worry, love, this is a new interest of his; I'm sure he'll be here for a while," the stranger smirked again, then turned towards me; he held out his hand, "Now, what do you say?"
I did not know if I was crazy or just looking for any way out of this, but I took the stranger's hand as he led me into the unknown...
