Chapter 22An hour after their landing in Miami, Khalid, John and Pierre reached the Canadian Consulate where they were expected.
“Mr. Michael Gillette, your Highness,” the consul said with a broad smile on his face as he met the three men at the top of the stairs, under the watchful eyes of two security officers at his side.
“I am pleased to be welcomed in your house, Mr. Gillette,” Khalid said, shaking hands with him. “These are my colleagues, Captain Mason and John..., our navigator.”
“Welcome, gentlemen, and please, Your Highness, go right in. Ms. Kartz has been waiting for your arrival, with some impatience, I might add,” the consul urged, indicating a door left ajar midway down the hall.
Talya froze when Khalid stood in the doorway. “Khalid, I’m sorry for all this...”
“Hush, Talya, it will be all right now...”
“Please..., take me out of here...”
“Your wish is my command, My Lady,” Khalid replied, a thin smile on his lips.
He took her hand and turned to the awaiting Consul, Pierre and John. The three of them were grinning from ear to ear.
“Ms. Kartz, it’s good to see you again,” Pierre said.
“Your Highness, I am pleased that we could be of service, but we have many things, which we would like to discuss with you presently...”
“Mr. Gillette, I am grateful for you having seen to the safety of my fiancée until I arrived, and I appreciate the fact that there will be discussions to be had as soon as possible. But for now, and with your permission, I will take Ms. Kartz to the Palms Hotel where we have reserved a suite for her and where she’ll be staying for the next two days – without any disturbance – if you understand my meaning.”
“Of course. I will call you in two days’ time then.”
“Thank you. That will be fine. And I would ask you to give your coordinates to Captain Masson, just in case we needed to get in touch with you in the meantime.”
“Yes, your Highness, I’ll do that.”
Within minutes, they were out of Talya’s temporary prison. She secretly wished never to set eyes on that place again.
