Harley - POV - larissa
I begged the gods that it wouldn't be Alpha Ren. As I spun around, my heart racing with dread, I sighed with relief when I saw it was Reynolds standing there looking perplexed.
"Are you scared of the dark?" he asked.
"No," I squeaked. "Why are you masking your scent? I thought someone was following me." I muttered. Reynolds looked at me curiously, waiting for me to say more.
"You should always mask your energy when you roam in human town. We don't want to attract any more attention here." Reynolds added. "This is important information I forgot to mention earlier in class."
"I already knew that basic information, alright, Professor," I added sarcastically. He stared at me with his poker face.
"Let's go inside," he said, and I followed. Thank God for saving my ass from getting caught by my mate. I wonder why he's searching for me. After all, doesn't he have Abigail, his lover, at his side? I tried to convince myself that only one thing felt right: maybe Alpha Ren wanted to reject me so his wolf wouldn't bug him to mate with Abigail.
The days went by in a blur as I studied Reynolds, whose rigid attitude made my heart flutter. Stella, my wolf, hated Reynolds, but I ignored her as it only attracted her to Alpha Ren's wolf because of the stupid mate bond. I couldn't sleep the whole night, thinking about tomorrow's exams, and I was sad to say goodbye to the place I had been staying for six months. After I passed my exams, Rachel would transfer me to another city called Alchemy, where humans and mystical creatures live together.
I heard a knock on the door and checked the time; it was midnight. I opened it to find Reynolds and Rachel with grim faces. "What's the matter, you guys?" I paused as Rachel raised her hand to stop me from speaking. As always, she was a cold-hearted woman. She never opened up; she was like a stuck-up princess.
"Why didn't you mention you have a mate?" Rachel asked coldly. Fear
gripped me as I paused.
"I left the pack to stay away from my mate," I stuttered.
"Larissa, you should have mentioned your mate is Alpha Ren, and he's waiting for you downstairs at the entrance," Rachel said. Fear made my heart race faster. That asshole found me. What should I do now?
"Rachel, please help me escape this man, as I don't want him as my mate. You wanted a healer, She-Wolf, right? If I go downstairs, he won't let me stay here." I pleaded with Rachel, whose poker face stared at me, and Reynolds' gaze reflected sympathy because I was crying with fear of losing my life and a chance to meet my parents.
"How about you reject him before us instead of running without proper rejection? Alpha Ren will hunt you down again if you escape now," Rachel added. I thought it could be a good idea. After all, Alpha also wanted to reject me because he loved Abigail, not me. But why did I feel things wouldn't go as I thought?
"What if he doesn't accept her rejection?" Reynolds asked Rachel, and she raised her eyebrows at him.
"Then I'll use magic to teleport Larissa. Not even Alpha Ren can stop that, and Larissa will land in the city where she's supposed to go after her exams, and you will also stay by her side." Rachel added as if it were a piece of cake.
I can see that Rachel or Reynold have no signs of fear upon learning that Alpha Ren is my mate, the blessed and most powerful wolf in the realm, and he could kill anyone who stands in his way, and they both will support me instead. I wonder to myself. I quickly changed into a decent outfit, my heart pounding as we walked downstairs. The scent of pine filled my senses, and my wolf purred as we approached.
I saw the handsome man sitting on the sofa like a king, with Beta Owen beside him. Alpha Ren's sharp jawline and chocolate-brown eyes stared at me, his fair skin contrasting with his dark hair. He stood tall, with broad shoulders and biceps flexed unintentionally.
"Mate," he whispered, and fear gripped me. "Are you coming back to the pack with us?" Alpha Ren asked firmly.
"No, I will not return to the pack, Alpha Ren. I ran away because I do not want you as my mate," I said, my words fueled by a sudden surge of anger, which I knew was not my own but that of Larissa's soul within me.
"How dare you reject our Alpha, you lowly creature," Beta Owen growled, his eyes flashing with fury.
"You are right. I am just a lowly wolf, not good enough for Alpha Ren," I said. Beta Owen held his gaze, unable to reply to my words.
"I am not rejecting you, Larissa. You are my mate," Alpha Ren's deep voice said in a commanding tone. I looked at Rachel, staring at Alpha Ren with no expression.
"Larissa, do you want Alpha Ren as your mate?" Rachel asked, still staring at Alpha Ren.
"No, I don't want Alpha Ren as my mate," I replied.
"Then give him a proper rejection," Rachel said.
"Who are you to interfere?" Beta Owen growled.
"I am Larissa Newt, the future Luna of the Blue Mist Pack, and I reject my mate, Alpha Ren Hobart," I said. A flash of grief reflected in Alpha Ren's gaze, and I felt the pain of my words. I did not realize that rejecting a mate could be so excruciatingly painful.
"I don't accept your rejection, Larissa," Alpha Ren said as he covered the distance superhumanly and attempted to take me with him.
