Epilogue-Love Hurts
Rose POV
"What is going on here?!" I ask Matthew shocked.
I look around the room at the faces of my family, all smirking as my fiancé stands before me holding another woman in his arms. Not just any woman…. My younger sister.
I always knew that my family hated me, but I just never realized how much and that they would go to the extent of allowing my fiancé to defraud me and get engaged to another. All so that they could take and control my assets left to me by my maternal grandmother.
As I stand there, the anger that fills me slowly depletes and I end up smiling to myself. It appears that my family and fiancé have done me a favour.
Before anyone can say anything, I straighten my posture, square my shoulders and look my fiancé dead in the face before smirking. I refuse to lose face right now; I will not give him and my family what they want.
If that’s the game you want to play, two can play it but I will play it better than you. I think to myself, taking a deep breath.
“I see we are of the same mind.” I say calmly.
“What do you mean?” My fiancé asks, my sister in his arms smirking victoriously at me. But the victorious smirk turns to confusion at my sentence.
“That you are just a scumbag that I can do without. I was silly to think that I loved you and you loved me. You did love me, but it was only my money you loved.” I respond.
“Money? You don’t have any… at least not now you don’t.” My ex-fiancé smirks.
“Are you sure?” I ask smirking right back at him, holding my phone up and shaking it.
Matthew quickly takes out his phone and starts to tap and swipe furiously before he throws his phone onto the floor.
“What did you do?” Matthew and my sister ask at the same time, both of their faces contorting in fury.
“Taken back what is rightfully mine.” I respond calmly.
“Nothing is yours! You are just a nobody in this family and life.” My sister Helen shouts, getting in my face.
She Slaps me across the face, but before anyone can respond…
SLAP! My hand hits Helen hard across the face, sending her back into Matthews arms.
“I am the rightful heir; you are only the mistress’ daughter. I know you like to say I am the old cleaners daughter but that is a lie. I am the only heir to the family, as proven by the seal.” I respond, pulling on my necklace to show the jade pendant which is the family heirloom. The only one in the family allowed to wear or even touch this is the genuine heir.
It was handed down to me by my mother, she gave it to me and told me to hide it on her death bed. My sister, father and his wife have been trying to get this from me for years. But I managed to hide it until today. I am finally taking a stand for myself.
Gasps fill the hall as I show the pendant proudly for all to see, the realisation of the situation finally dawning on those around us. For years my fiancé and sister have lied to others about my position, allowing them to bully and humiliate me.
“She is the real heir.” One person mutters.
“What is going on? Have we been deceived?” Whispers another.
“Looks like the elite Wen family have been lying.” Another whispers.
“How could you do this?” Matthew growls at me.
“Do what? Give you a taste of your own medicine?” I ask sarcastically.
“I haven’t done anything wrong.” He spits at me.
“Only because I stepped in and took everything back.” I mumble.
“IT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE! EVERYTHING THAT IS YOURS IS MINE!” Helen shouts at me.
I take a step back and shake my head at her.
“No, nothing I have is yours. Everything is mine. I built it up from nothing and my inheritance is just that... mine.” I reply calmy.
“What about us? We are in a relationship.” Matthew responds cockily.
“We were but after you cheat on me with my sister? No way in hell will I be with you. Besides, I have my business and bring a lot to the table whereas you bring nothing yet what you are trying to do is technically fraud.” I reply, making his face go red in anger.
“HOW DARE YOU!?” Matthew bellows at me, dropping his arm and taking a step towards me.
“I dare because in this relationship, I hold all the power and you? You hold nothing except my purse strings but no more! You want my sister?! Fine. Have her. Be with her. Make you and my family happy, but the price of this? Me and my money.” I smirk.
Matthew steps forward and raises his hand. But before if can reach me an arm comes out of nowhere and blocks it.
“You dare to hit a woman?” A man says angrily, his arm reaching out above me; his voice calm yet the edge in it is clear.
My eyes follow the arm clad in a black suit jacket and they fall upon the most handsome man I have ever seen.
“Who are you?” I ask breathlessly. I am lost in his crystal blue eyes, slightly hidden by his shaggy brown hair.
I want to touch. I think to myself.
“There is always later.” The man mumbles.
My hand flies to my mouth, did I say that out loud?
“Yes.” The man replies, a smile on his handsome face. Oh come on! Even his smile is sexy!
“Let me go.” Matthew spits, trying to pull his arm out of the mans grip.
“You dare to hit a woman?” Wei repeats.
“She is mine, and I can do whatever I want.” Matthew spits, smirking at me.
The man looks down at me, he towers over me and makes me feel like a child. Yet I also feel safe right now, the confidence I was pretending to have has now arrived with the help of my rival.
I take a deep breath. “I am not yours and never will be.” I state loudly for all to hear.
There is a collective gasp around the room, everyone taking a step closer to enjoy the show again.
“Yes, you are, you are my fiancé.”
“You seriously think I am going to marry you after this?” I ask incredulously, pointing between him, his woman and my family. I laugh darkly. “Never.”
“Who in their right mind would marry a loser like you? You should be over the moon that I have agreed to marry you, we men always have a mistress on the side. Get used to it.” Matthew spits.
“I am marrying him.” I say loudly, closing my eyes as the words leave my lips.
My body stills, awaiting the barrage of abuse that is about to come from the man as I get the impression, he is not someone to trifle with. I am prepared for the punishment he will undoubtedly give me, but nothing happens. I open my eyes and see the man smirking at me.
“What?” Matthew asks, breaking the silence.
“You heard her. We are getting married.” The man responds, pulling me into his side and wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
“Since when?” Matthew asks.
“Since now.” The man replies nonchalantly.
“Who are you?!” Matthew asks, looking between me and the man. It is then that I realize that no one seems to know who this man is, myself included.
The man does not even respond to Matthew. Instead he turns to me.
“Let’s go.” he says, taking my hand and pulling me from the hall.
No one dares to intercept us as my knight in a suit takes me away from my ex-fiancé, family and the drama that they have created. I should feel scared being dragged by this man whose reputation is one of bloodshed and coldness.
Yet I cannot help the feeling of warmth and safety that fills me. I smile to myself, we may not know each other but for today he is my safe place.
