Chapter 3 Benedict thought he surely must be losing his mind. With the rain he had not been outside at all. Not even for the daily walk about the ground allowed him by his brother. With guards, of course. He hadn’t even had that today. The chill in the room matched the cold despair in his heart. Warin would not come today and indeed Benedict did not want him to take the risk. But it did not keep him from grieving over it. He knelt next to the hearth and poked at the fire with a long, thin stick. Embers flew about the chamber but none came near to him.
