I twist it, having to push my weight against it as I shove it open. Instantly, I cough and choke on the dust, and the draft here is so much colder. Ice cold and it makes me shiver. Stone steps led up to another floor. Climbing them, I stop halfway up the spiraling stone steps in front of a stained glass window. I peer out and see the back of the castle lands, seeing the trees and forest but that isn’t all I notice. There is a road. I’m high enough to see over the forest, and I can just make out a road snaked between the forest as a car drives along the narrow-looking path. This could be my escape, yet I wonder how it led into the castle grounds or if it did. Ascending further up the steps, I find myself in a round room. The pointed ceiling tells me I must be in one of the castle towers.
