I wake up in the middle of the night to Alice frantically shivering. At first, I think she is just being cute, but then I feel her burning temperature. It kicks my pulse into high gear.
"So cold..." Alice whispers hoarsely and presses her small, naked body to mine to draw heat.
"Baby," I press my hand to her forehead. Her short, brown hair is all sweaty and hanging down in thick strands. "s**t. You're burning up. Do you feel worse than before?"
A weak noise from her throat has my blood running ice cold, my throat turning dry. "We have to call someone... This isn't normal..."
"I'm fine..."
