CHAPTER FOUR Windsor Street sat at right angles to Perth Road, the main thoroughfare from Dundee to Perth. It was a one-sided terrace of fine townhouses that strode northwards and downwards towards the green space of Magdalene Yard. On the opposite, western side of Windsor Street, bare trees of a mansion house wept dew onto a leaf-covered ground. On a bright day, Windsor Street would afford fine views over the river to Fife, but mist obscured the Tay on this drab November morning and drifted in damp grey tendrils between the buildings.
