CHAPTER TWENTY “Sergeant,” Duff stood beside Watters, with the gambling account books in his hand. “There’s something here you should see.” “What’s that, Duff?” Duff placed the open book on Watters’ desk and pressed his finger on a name. “This entry here, Sergeant.” Watters frowned. “Alexander Beaton.” “That’s our doctor, Sergeant.” “It may be,” Watters said. “Or it could only be a coincidence of names.” “I hope it’s somebody else,” Duff said. “I’ve taken rather a liking to the doctor.” “So have I,” Watters agreed. “I’ll have a word with him.” Marie thought that Beaton had a secret. Maybe he’s in debt through gambling. Watters walked to the window as his mind raced.
