Evil Within

CHAPTER 8

The temperature was getting low outside and there was another storm hoarding towards the not so peaceful town of Charlesrange. Luna and her friends stepped out from the movie theatre and they all decided to rush back to home.

Since the weather is going to be worse, and Carla is staying with Luna tonight, Peter asked them to drop at their destination.

Luna was hesitant at his request but Carla was excited. She wanted Luna to spend more time with Peter. They hopped inside Peter’s car and drove away. The night was getting darker and Luna felt some uneasiness around her.

Carla noticed her protruding emotions and held her hand. It was a comfort but not to rely on as Luna was impatient all the time in Peter’s car.

“Girls!! Guess what? We reached Luna's house.” Peter informed them.

“Finally!!!” Luna seemed slightly jubilant.

Peter parked the car near the house and the ladies stepped out. Carla appreciated Peter’s behaviour to be very kind and left with Luna to her house.

Peter ignited the engine and went to his place. As soon as Luna opened the door of the entrance, she gasped to find it opened. She was shocked and stood still.

“What happened?” Carla asked.

“Someone inside here!!!” Luna whispered and grabbed a baseball bat from a cornered drawer. 

She opened the door and looked for the light switch and turned the lights on. The place seems untouched by anything which made Luna perplexed. She looked for a clue but found nothing.

“Maybe you forgot to lock the door.” Carla stated.

“No!! I didn’t!!!”

“But this place is the same as I saw it last time, I don't think anyone is here.” Carla said.

“We haven’t checked upstairs.” Luna informed her and went up to her room.

She was careful enough to be alert if anyone attacks her. Suddenly, she heard something, a noise from the room adjacent to hers. Luna was alert and ready to defend herself. She gestured at Carla to call on 911 while she kept the intruder caged inside the room.

She locked the door from the outside and Carla informed the police. The knob on the door twisted but as it was locked, the intruder got stuck inside. Carla was shocked as what Luna interpreted was right. Someone actually was inside the house the entire time.

“Luna!!” She got scared when there were loud bands on the door.

“Don’t worry!! The police will be here anytime, and if that killer comes out somehow, i will hit him with this bat..” she assured Carla.

The bangs were loud and strong as the door will be blown anytime. This caused the girls to rush outside but the Private investigators arrived on time.

“Step aside!!! We will handle this!!!” Officer Andrew was in action with his pistol and went up to open the door. He immediately knocked the person off and the team arrived to arrest the killer. The girls were outside and glad to hear that the police had arrested the killer.

Sophia dragged the person ruthlessly and threw him on the ground.

“Finally!! You are under arrest..” she claimed.

“Stop this nonsense!! I am the owner of this house….” the person stated and the voice was familiar to Luna.

She rushed to check and almost in tears to see Lucas been dragged and beaten by the officers. She held Sophia’s arm and asked her to stop the beating.

“That's not a killer!! He is my brother, Lucas.” she cried.

“What?” Sophia was distinct and immediately stopped the team.

“Are you sure that he is your brother?” she asked Luna.

Luna nodded her head and went to help Lucas get back on his feet. He got a gash wound on his right cheek which is blue around the corners. Luna was depressed to see his brother’s condition and more, she was guilty inside.

“I am sorry!!!” she whispered to Lucas but he remained silent.

Sophia and Andrew approached Luna for interrogation.

“You called us that you are in danger? Am i right?” Sophia was mad.

“Yes!! Actually, I locked the door before going out but when I was back, the door was unlocked. I was scared because of the recent activities happening around the town. I thought an intruder was the killer but I was wrong.” Luan explained.

“It's good to be alert and careful but you should open your eyes and mind correctively. Your brother would be in jail right now if you didn’t come on time to tell us about him.” Andrew says.

“I am really sorry to bother you.” Luna apologized to the officers.

The officer’s left and Luna, with her brother and Carla, went inside. Lucas was angry and didn’t talk to her.

She persuaded him to his room, “Lucas! I am sorry!!!” 

“Do you think I am angry with you because of this drama? No!! I am not!!!” he gritted his teeth.

Luna was confused so she asked him instead, “then why are you angry? I know it is my fault entirely that the police arrested you without any reason.” 

“Do you think that i am a fool? Like I didn't see you with that man. I told you to stay away. This is what you are doing in my absence?” he yelled at him.

Luna was shocked to hear this and out of words to give a justification of roaming around with peter. She knew that this guy would bring troubles to her life.

“That’s not what you are thinking Lucas. Luna was against all of this but it was my idea to get home with him. I was just thinking that if a guy will be with us, then we will be safe around.” Carla stepped up and explained to Lucas.

“Did I ask you? Anyway, do you know him personally?” he was angrier.

Carla shook her head.

“And you thought it would be good to have a guy beside you because it would be safer, right? When you didn’t even know him personally, how can you trust him that easily? That guy could have taken your avantage or might have killed you if he is the killer. Your fun can wait but your life won’t.” Lucas' words were bitter but true.

Luna and Carla were guilty. They apologized to Lucas for their careless behavior. However, Lucas’s temper get low and he forgive them quickly but made them promise to stay away from peter.
