CHAPTER 5

Luna was hesitant to see Peter standing at the doorstep but she kept her face to him as a neutral. She had a good time with her brother and after considering Lucas’s advise, she wanted to keep herself away from all the problems and distractions.

Since Peter was standing there for a while, Luna confronted and asked him, “why are you here? What do you want?” 

“I am here to apologize to you. I shouldn’t have acted like that with you earlier. I messed up our little friendship.” he stated in a depressing voice.

Luna made an angry face and shouted, "When were we friends? You are just an outsider that met me on the road. How can you consider a stranger to be your friend, or you think i am that stupid who will believe in you sugar coated lie trap?”

“What are you talking about? It wasn’t a thing I meant earlier. I am new and looking for companions. You were the most kind person I have met in this place. If I knew you had a boyfriend, I would have kept my walls from you.” He scrunched his brows and stared at Luna.

“Sorry? Boyfriend? He is my brother! He lives at the town’s end but that doesn’t mean you can call him my boyfriend? Is that your way to see any relation between a girl and a boy? How cheap are you?” Luna was at the verge of stabbing Peter because he disrespected her relationship with Lucas.

Peter was speechless and hesitant to say after he released what was wrong, "I am sorry! I didn’t know you have a brother. I thought you are single….”

Luna stopped him in the middle of his sentence, ‘just leave! Peter! You have spoiled my day and now i don’t want you to spoil my night.”

Luna shut the door on Peter's face and locked the door securely. This new neighbor was giving her mixed vibes and she didn't want another conflict with him. Luna went up to her room and took out her night-suit.

She removed her clothes and took a hot bath in her peaceful bathroom, but the feeling of getting watched shuddered her. She wasn’t in peace. After checking everything, every window, Luna was back into the tub. She shrugged off the feelings and enjoyed her bath.

Later she cooked some noodles for dinner as she felt hungry. After dinner, she made herself busy in completing her assignments and other stuff. It was almost twelve at midnight, Luna was tired.

She fell asleep eventually and woke up after a thunderous growl. She gasped in fear but collected herself shortly. After realizing that a storm has arrived. It rained the whole night and the thunderclaps were hauntingly scary. Luna was scared but she didn’t want Lucas to get worried because of her.

After a hard time, Luna slept early in the morning but she woke up soon after the rain was stopped. She wanted to see the after rain so she went to the main door and opened it.

A body felt on her feet and Luna got scared. She screamed at the top of her lungs and Peter awakened after her ear piercing scream.

“What happened?” she was shocked too.

Luna was stunned and sis not moved. The shock was too much to consume. She didn't knew what to feel right now, she was relieve to see that it was not a dead body but her guts tighten to see Peter at the door, again.

“What are you doing here?” she shouted.

“I never left.” Peter stated.

Luna was impulsed and can’t convince herself to believe him.

“Why?”

“Because I wanted to apologize. You didn’t give me a chance to speak last night so I waited for you, here.” Peter gazed lowly.

Luna was touched by his gesture but why Peter was here, still sounded a mystery.

“It rained heavily last night. You should have gone home! Why did you think it would be a great idea to stay here? If anyone has seen you, I don't know what they will think about it.” Luna was concerned.

“No body saw, at least till I fell asleep. Yes, the rain was heavy and it scared me too but i wanted to apologize. I am sorry, Luna! I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Peter apologized.

Luna passed a smile and welcomed him in her house. Peter was drenched in his clothes so Luna offered him Lucas spare clothes.

Peter got into the bathroom to change, meanwhile Luna prepared a hot breakfast for them. When Peter arrived, she served him bacon and toast with warm milk. Peter was glad to have a warm meal.

“Do you know, this is the warm meal someone offered me in this neighborhood. You are very kind, Miss Luna. I wished the others to be like you.” Peter commented.

“There are murders happening around the city, people are scared and they are not willing to welcome a newcomer as they are at the target of being suspected.” Luna stated.

Peter stopped munching on the food and stared blankly at Luna, hoping she would laugh and say that it was just a joke but Luna seemed serious.

“Are you serious?’ he asked.

Luna nodded and explained him about Augusta’s murder.

“That’s horrible. Who can do this? Aren't the Police taking action against the criminal?” Peter was asking with much interest.

Lucas’ words echo in Luna’s mind. She can’t trust this person, not this soon. What if Peter is a criminal? But he doesn’t like that kind of person.

“Hey! Thank you for the breakfast, I gotta go. I have to find a job around the city to support myself.” Peter excused himself and left Luna’s house.

Luna was confused and doubted Peter’s excuse but she decided to observe him carefully. Since he arrived, the murders are happening frequently. He could be a suspect but nothing proves anything until found guilty.

All Luna could do was to be alert and careful around him. She went back to her room and changed to go back to her college. The crowd was familiar in the local transport but the familiarity was no longer there to be seen.

This world is too big to explore and she can’t trust anyone in this world. Since Luna’s parents left, she was depressed and alone. Lucas left her to pursue his career. It was a time when they barely talked to each other but since their parents died, Luna felt a connection with her brother.

He might not be blood related but he is her brother and he will be the one to protect her.

Luna’s day went quickly. She was back after her day in college, following the same routine. After the chores, she worked on her thesis and slept early for the next day.
