Chapter 21

1986 Words
{Emily} Wretched halls surrounded me as I walked down the corridor. Levi didn’t bother to hide his glare before he stormed off. If anything this would benefit both of us. It’d be worse if I didn’t pick him and he was thrown into another raffle with an eager pureblood. I dozed off while Jasmine stuttered in picking a pair. I think his name was Blake White of the Demonix Coven. Now that was an eager man. In any case, both will be attending school alongside us. But I’m sure Levi won’t be a problem. However, Blake has been clinging off of Jasmine ever since she chose him. I’m positive Jasmine made her choice absentmindedly. “Blake is unbearable!” Jasmine slammed her fist against her gym locker, a few girls paused to stare. “I can’t get him off my back.” “You could’ve been a tad bit pickier when you were choosing,” I mumbled. “My father wanted me to pick him. He whispered in my ear while you were analyzing Levi. The Demonix Coven has a vast militia with extraordinary abilities. In the end, this only makes our coven deadlier.” “I see but please keep your voice down. We don’t need word spreading around.” She pulled on her shorts. “Let’s just focus on today’s practice.” I glanced out the glass window in the teacher’s office. “But there is an audience and I haven’t seen Levi yet.” “I’ve seen him. He skips. Probably to avoid you but I’m sure he must be somewhere in the crowd.” “There are some things that haven’t been cleared up yet. You know, since he stormed off.” She chuckled. “Like a toddler that had gotten his lollipop stolen…” Her eyes locked with mine firmly. “But..does Orion know?” “No. I’m trying to plan out how I’m going to tell him.” “You can’t always plan everything. They are bound to bump into each other. Levi could care less but Orion will.” The team began piling out, sitting at the center of the gym to stretch. A couple of escorts surrounded the school but I could feel them right outside the gym. “Hey, have you seen Julia?” I asked. Jasmine shrugged. “Not really. She’s been absent.” “Odd..” I shook my head. “Let’s round them up.” *** Practice ended on a good note. Everything ran smoothly, no fights. But the team wasn’t exactly best friends. More like acquaintances that occasionally bump heads. It was progress, though. Jasmine tossed me a towel to dry my wet hair. “Where are you headed to?” “I have to pick up Rebecca and Renee from school.” “What about them? Why are they in a hurry?” She motioned to the Alpha-Females quickly packing their stuff. Momentarily, it didn’t cross my mind that Braden and Brandon attend the same school as my sisters. If father finds out then he’d make them change schools. “They have two brothers where Rebecca and Renee go.” “Ok. I have to pick up a few books from the store.” “Yeah, bye.” I smiled and fondly waved. Seeing the Alpha-Females huddled near their car with their mates made me think. What would’ve happened if my father never crosses paths with my biological parents? Would I be laughing amongst them too? Some mistakes get made and it was a mistake to be missing something I’ve never had. I drove off in a hurry. It was pointless to daydream on hopeless things. I peeked at my rearview mirror. I wished I didn’t. They were right behind me. Not following me but we were headed in the same direction. Thankfully, the school soon came into view and I swerved to the edge of the building to park. The smell of blood filled my nostrils. I sprinted out of the car. There was a hoard of children shouting in one spot. I caught a glimpse of Alec, shoving a rogue vampire off Renee. They were bleeding. I shoved kids aside, springing into the fight. Alexander and Rebecca were knocked unconscious. Alec and Rene were struggling to keep the rogue vampires off them. A ball of fire formed in my palm and I shot it right at the head of the rogue stalking Renee. Blood splattered everywhere. The children surrounding the fight squealed. My fist connected with another rogue’s jaw. The sickening crack brushing through the trees. I grabbed Alec, throwing him in the air as I snapped off a rogue’s neck. I caught him and settled him beside his unconscious brother. The last rogue threw himself toward me but I grabbed his hair, staring into his bloodshot eyes. I remembered those days. I’ll be doing him a favor by ending his life. My knee slammed into his face and he thudded onto the grass. I became aware of the blood surrounding me. I also noticed that the children looked mortified. Renee grasped my bloody hand, not bothered by it. “Rebecca’s not responding,” she cried. I wiped my hands on my jeans. “What happened?” I asked, kneeling beside Alexander and Rebecca. “The rogue slammed them onto the ground,” Alec responded, his voice trembling a bit. I pressed my palms on their heads. “Wake,” I whispered. Their eyes opened immediately. That’s when I noticed the small cut on Rebecca’s cheek that was dribbling blood. I tilted her head to get a better view of it. It wasn't made by a rogue. This small cut was the cause of the problem. “Who did this, Becca?” Alexander cut in, wincing, “A Dawn Howler girl. The one with the blue shirt.” I whirled around, scanning the kids. Then I spotted the little fox. I grabbed her by the shirt, pulling her to me. She yelped, her low lip quivering. “Now you’ve seen what happens when you harm a pureblood and leave her bleeding,” I sneered. “Are you happy?” She shook her head furiously. “Those rogues would’ve gone after delicious fox blood once they were done with the purebloods. So I suggest you don’t try any funny tricks like that in the future.” “Let her go,” Venus cut in. “She’s just a kid.” “This kid,” I drawled, releasing my grip on the girl’s shirt. “Would’ve caused the greatest m******e of all time.” I turned away but I still smell the pureblood blood scent in the air. Alexander had a gash on his forehead, Alec’s arm was full of scratches, Rebecca had a small cut, and Renee’s lip was bleeding. “Shit.” The rogues are going to keep coming if they still smell their blood. I panicked, ripping off a piece of Alec’s shirt to wrap it around his arm but the blood seeped through. I needed to stop the bleeding. “This will hurt,” I say, my hand hovering over Alec’s arm. “Frost.” A thin coat of frost spread through his arm. He made a small sound biting his lip. This method was only used by elite foxes. I could feel nine pairs of eyes burning through my back. My hand hovered over Alexander’s forehead. In theory, these small injuries were supposed to heal already but some purebloods develop this ability later than others. “Em, look out!” Renee screamed, reaching out for me. I frowned but it disappeared when a rogue slammed into me. Vampire rogues are not like wolf rogues or fox rogues. These are deadlier and have rapid movements. We tumbled onto the grass but I pinned him underneath me. This rogue was a child. I cringed, swiping the dagger in my boot and slicing his neck. They were coming in blood driven packs. A speck of blood can have that much damage. “Emily!” I scowled. How do they get her so f*****g fast? And at the worst moments. “What are you doing here?” “Vanessa called us,” Demetri explained. “You’re bleeding.” “Stay out of this,” I hissed. “You can’t be involved with vampires.” My outstretched hand created a shield, blocking out the other species. It was transparent but effective. “This isn’t a playground. The four of you should know that.” In a flash, I was on the ground. There was a ringing in my ear. Damnit. They distracted me. My dagger sliced through the rogue’s skull. I opened up the shield a little bit. “Go, I’ll be fine,” I reassured, as I tossed my sisters and the boys to the safe side of the shield. “You see that woman beside those four men?” They nodded. “Tell her to heal your wounds.” I sealed the shield. Any moment now. My coven should be appearing soon. Father detests when vampire rogues cause disruption. Besides, he must’ve already detected the pureblood scent in the air already. In the corner of my eye, I saw Victoria struggling with her daughters. They were trying to put down the shield. However, my abilities are superior to theirs. As long as I focus. Blood trickled down the side of my face. Snarls filled the field as they charged to me. I wiped the blood away. Rogue vampires come with many qualities. Whatever ability they had when they were sane, they got to keep when they turned rogue. For this reason, I have to be careful about power suppressors. They were Vampires that get rid of your abilities as long as they have a hand on you. They have blue eyes and used to be purebloods. This was probably the most I fought in my lifetime but my coven will be here soon. Just as long as they don’t pile on top of me. My fists slammed onto the ground. A hole was created, their anguished screams for blood disappeared as I returned the dirt to its place. That got rid of about ¼ of them. "Damnit,” I cursed. Noticing the woman stalking down towards me. This pack of rogues had a leader. That was never good. I lost focus again. A rogue managed to strike a blow at me and I fell on my ass. His nails scraped across my cheek. Warm blood trickled down my neck. I grabbed his legs and swapped body weights so that he was the one on the ground now. The heel of my boot crushed his skull. The rogues suddenly parted, suppressing themselves. Blue eyes. Two. No. Three pairs of them. I took hold of the wind, directing it towards the blue-eyed people. It swiped them off their feet and twirled them in the air. A flash of black hair took my attention away. “Rebecca, what are you doing?!” I forgot they could release themselves from the shield. She was jumping in the air, making a beeline for the trees. “Getting father. He’s close by! Renee will help you!” I looked beside me and lost control of the wind as I dropped my hands. “Renee, get back-” She was like a small snake, swerving between the rogues, knocking them off their feet. I yelped as blue eyes appeared in front of me. I collapsed, their hands snaking around my wrists, pinning them above my head. The power felt like it was flowing out of me. They surrounded me. The blue-eyed woman tilted my head to the side to get a better view of my neck. The other two neared their mouths to my wrists. I waited as the rogue neared its mouth to my veins before slamming my fist into its eye. He screeched, backing away in pain. The other two backed away. A large hand snapped their necks in a matter of seconds. It was Father. “Get up,” he ordered. I wobbled to my feet, feeling my energy slowly come back to me. His eyes slowly directed themselves to the foxes behind the shield. “Take your sisters and get out of here.” “Yes, Father.” I moved past him but he caught me by my arm. “Are you intentionally protecting them?” he whispered. “Never.” “Then take down the shield.” The sharpness in his voice was impossible to ignore. With a wave of my hand, the shield immediately shattered. He seemed pleased, watching the rogue vampires launch themselves on the fox children. Their screams were music to his ears. Watching Victoria and her family struggle to keep the rogues off the children wiped the frown off his face. He released my arm, pushing me away. “Leave.” The cruelty he had even with innocent children was bone-chilling. He...he lived off of their screams. ****
