{Emily}
Birds continuously chirped as I felt the sunlight rest of my face. My eyes fluttered open and I glanced at my surroundings. My bookshelf wasn't in the far right corner of my room and Orion's delicious scent was on my sheets.....
Orion's scent? I sat up instantly. Needless to say, I regretted it as the world began to spin and a harsh pang hit my head. Oh yes, I had hangover symptoms. It became increasingly clear that this room didn't belong to me. I stumbled out of bed and rushed out of the room. I came face to face with the railing of stairs as I peered below.
Orion and a small girl were sitting in the kitchen table. The girl whispered a little too loudly. "Is she still drunk?"
I flushed. "Shit."
I rushed back into the room as footsteps thudded up the stairs. I rummaged around for my phone until a small hand tapped my shoulder. "Here's your phone. I had to take it away because Orion was holding your hair back as you threw up in the bathroom."
I felt ashamed and let my black hair serve as a curtain to cover my face. I dialed Jasmine's number immediately.
"EMILY LE DOUX," Jasmine screeched. "Where the hell are you?!"
I sighed heavily and sank onto the bed. "Jasmine, listen, I'm perfectly safe. I'll tell you when I see you but did my father call you?"
"No s**t he did," Jasmine was still yelling. "I told him that you were sleeping over at Julia's place. Don't worry, Julia also covered for you."
"That's good."
"Did you hook up with that college guy or something? Cause you disappeared without a trace."
"Not exactly," I muttered and glanced at the girl who was smiling nervously while tugging Orion back a bit. "Jasmine, let's meet up at the usual place. Tell Julia. Oh, and bring an extra set of clothes."
"Yeah, yeah," Jasmine sighed and I hung up. I patted my body and realized I wasn't wearing my red dress. I glared suspiciously at Orion. The girl had already scurried elsewhere.
"Aloisa changed your clothes," he said.
"Is that your sister?"
"Yes."
Images from last night rushed back. Being pressed up against a car. Orion dangerously close. Delicious friction. I flushed again and rushed out of the room past him. Jogging down the stairs, Aloisa intercepted me with a cup.
"Here's some coffee," she smiled. "I heard it's good for a hangover."
"Thanks," I mumbled. I swallowed the bitter coffee but felt a little bit better. Aloisa grabbed a box of cookies and a book that was laying on the kitchen counter before skipping up the stairs. The sound of her room door shutting echoed awkwardly.
"You're a mess," Orion scolded, patting down my hair normally. He pointed at the sink. "Wash your face."
I was muttering various curses while splashing water onto my face. He handed me a towel to dry myself off. Glancing around, I said, "Who knows that I'm here?"
"Just Aloisa."
"What about Conrad?"
"What about him?" He retorted gruffly.
"Orion, now is not the time for your jealousy."
"Who said I was jealous?"
"Ugh, you're being difficult," I snapped. I decided not to tick him off too much because I needed a ride to meet up with Jasmine and Julia. "Are you busy now?"
"No."
"A man of few words, I guess," I mumbled but painted a fake smile. "Can you give me a ride?"
"Okay."
He grabbed a key from his pocket and motioned for me to follow. I did so and we ended up in his car. Orion is the firstborn son of the Blackcrest Nightwalker pack Beta. The Blackcrest Nightwalker pack is known for being filthy rich because of the corporation they own. However, in terms of wealth, my coven beat them. So it wasn't a surprise to see that Orion had a black Ferrari.
His car held his intoxicating scent that I had to roll down the window. I became annoyed when he rolled the window back up. Couldn't he see that I needed to breathe other air so that I didn't jump him?
"The Dawn Howler pack is in the area. They're a mix of elite foxes and wolves. Once they smell or sense the presence of a pureblood they'll come to investigate," Orion explained as if he read my thoughts.
"I see."
The sudden howls of wolves and foxes made the hair on my neck stand up. I couldn't think straight as the thought of my biological parents coming to investigate who the pureblood who trespassed on their land was. Not to mention that my biological sisters and their mates will come as well. The presence of a pureblood wasn't a trivial matter. Especially to a pack that has been scarred by my coven. They wouldn't be passive toward me.
Orion's car came to a halt. I glared at him. "What are you doing?!"
"There's no way of escaping the Dawn Howler's Alphas. We'll have to stay here until they come and we can explain"
"You don't understand," I growl. "They can't see me. Much less converse with me."
A wave of confusion flowed through his features. He frowned at my panic-stricken face. "Why not?" I could sense their presence coming closer and quickly got out of his car. "Emily, wait!"
It was too late. I was already dashing into the trees. If my calculations were correct, Dawn Howler territory ended in a couple of miles. There was a river that separated their territory and my coven's territory. My high-jumping allowed me to spring from tree to tree. The rustling in the bushed far below me alerted me that they were catching up to me.
I don't think I could come face to face with my biological parents again. There have been only two times that I did. Once when I five and another when I was nine. But when I was nine, I was a rogue vampire and I destroyed many packs and packhouses. Like the Blackcrest Nightwalkers and Dawn Howlers.
The once dense trees became thin and weak. I realized that the trees near the riverbank were too weak and would snap under my weight. I jump down from the trees and onto the soil. But I didn't count for the presence of a black wolf than hauled itself at me.
I yelped as the enormous black wolf caged above me. It wasn't Orion's or anyone that I knew. I used my arms to shield my face and I took a peek at the wolf. Its eyes were brown but widened once we locked eyes. A soft whimper was emitted by him. One of my father's. Was it Demetri, Dominic, or Damien?
I repeatedly cursed Orion in my head for bringing me to Dawn Howler's territory. Because of him, I'm currently face to face with one of the triplets. I used my strength to shove him aside and threw him against a tree. It was enough to hold back an adult wolf but not enough to stop him from chasing after me.
The riverbank was so close that I could practically see the water. Her voice stopped me as the river water rushed to my shoes.
"Daniella, please, don't run away," Victoria pleaded.
Don't look back. Don't make eye contact. Don't look back.
I became increasingly aware that Victoria wasn't the only person behind me waiting in silence. Then I jumped. I jumped across the river. The splashing water vibrated in my ears. This was merely a baby jump for a pureblood. I was too distracted that I didn't manage a safe landing. My left knee hit the ground harshly.
I glanced behind me and saw my biological family staring back at me. I felt my breathing even out and my pulse return to normal but it didn't last long.
"What do you think you're child?" My father was suddenly in front of me. He pulled me back to my feet by the collar of my shirt. "What have you done?"
"Father, I-"
His palm cracked across my face. "I hope you haven't forgotten about Rebecca and Renee"
"Please don't-"
"They're safe. For now."
"Father, they-"
"I think it's time for a proper meeting with your other parents."
"But-"
"It's time we talked like proper adults."
