Chapter two: Old Friends

Michael’s POV

“Good Morning Sir, your mother is here waiting for you” Anna my personal assistant greeted me.

“Thank you, any messages?” I asked her

“Yes, here they are” she handed me the sticky note with the messages they gave her and files which I needed to go through. I got them and went to my office.

“Hello mother, I was not aware that you were going to come today” I greeted her going to seat in my chair,

“You didn't go on the date I had set up for you with the prime minister’s daughter” she began

“Did she call you? That's nice at least I won't be calling to apologize to her seeing you have already done that?” I said

“You cannot keep avoiding meeting with her, people are beginning to talk about your s****l preferences” she replied,

“Is that so mother? Then they can continue talking. I have a meeting I need to attend in the next few minutes please if you can show yourself out” I Said opening the files Anna handed to me earlier.

“you cannot keep doing this, your Father is growing impatient with your behaviour,” she said but I just continued to look at the papers

“come home on Sunday,” she said coming to kiss me, she grabbed her handbag and left.

I put my pen down and thought of what she said, if only they understood what kind of women I had encountered. I met different women from rich to poor, young and old but whenever they found out who I was everything changed. They were after material things and always had to let them go. I pressed on the intercom “Yes sir “

“Anna I won't be seeing anyone for a while, I don't want any interference,” I said to her as answered

“Noted! “she answered and I ended the call.

I began to go through all the reports from different departments and found the hotel was conducting training for those in hospitality and every company had to send two representatives and they had twenty-four people coming. I wondered why the training was going on for I was against it.

My phone rang and it was Anna on the extension line, “what is it?”

“Sir, your meeting is about to begin everyone is already there,” she said, I looked at the time and it was already three hours since I started working, “I will be there,” I said cutting the call. I stood up got my phone and the documents which I signed and the ones I didn't.

I left my office, as soon as she heard my door open, she rushed to come and got the documents. I began to walk to the boardroom with Anna behind, I began to wonder why everyone seemed so concerned about my marital status.

I remember Lucas my friend coming to my office years back when I first employed Anna, she was a very beautiful brunette young lady with a curvy body, and she always had her hair tied neatly with her blue eyes and her dark brown hair. At some point I wanted to take Lucas’ advice and go out with her but being her boss, I just couldn’t do that.

“Good Morning Everyone!” I said as soon as I got to the meeting and set in front of them with Anna behind taking minutes of the meeting.

Our company secretary began chairing the meeting with the agenda sales performances

how our sales performances reports were submitted and I had gone through them, “As you all are aware with the Willows hotel coming into the hotel business sales have dropped for sanders hotel by 16% which really is almost have of our revenue. Right now, it stands as the top-ranked and best hospitality hotel which has led us to lose our long-term clients” Mr Smith hotel managing director said as his turn came.

“Tell me Mr smith, if our sells are drastically dropping by those percentages why are you getting more people to do training free of charge causing us to lose out on revenue,” I asked him.

“The preparations were done months ago for the training we are only finalising now Sir.” He answered

“And I believe you think that this is worth it? Wasting money?” I questioned him,

“Yes Sir, I believe we are trying to empower more people in the hospitality business and by doing this we can still prove to people that we stick to our vision of empowering people” He replied feeling so proud of himself

“Out of 13 people who are here, is this the best solution you could come up with? Wasting company money on training?” I asked them

“I believe it’s a good thing as these people will also help in marketing the company as I understand many are coming from marketing departments” He answered,

“I really hope this marketing team you are trying to put together will be able to pull it off if not, I want his pay to be cut in half,” I said to the director of finance.

“Yes, sir!” Mrs Boshoff answered the director of finance answered. I saw him swallow hard as he took a glass of water drinking all of it contains. The meeting went on fine as I was impressed with Sanders construction director managing to convince the landlords of the land, we were trying to acquire all the land without any issues.

“I want the rest of you to bring me better reports on Monday,” I said showing my hand to Anna who went around giving back the documents to all the directors.

“I won’t sign such incomplete reports and requests,” I said walking out, I could hear murmurs follow behind as I walked out, my phone rang and I looked at it and it was Lisa, s**t! I said under my breath

“Hey, how are you doing? Are you in back in town?” I spoke through the phone as soon as I answered.

“Am doing fine, Yes I arrived two hours ago was hoping we could catch up over lunch” She spoke at the other end,

“Uhhh, I have meetings till later. Maybe can meet in the evening at 7 pm? I know a very good restaurant with different cuisines” I said

“Perfect I will see you then, just send me the location of the place” she answered sounding so excited.

“Great! I will see you!” I answered cutting the line.

It was very good to finally see her after so many years. If only I had known what I would find myself intoIi would not have bothered going there.
