It’s not that I don’t believe in working hard and contributing to society in some way, it’s just that after years of being my own boss, I’ve developed an attitude problem. I can’t be told what to do. I can’t be managed. In the last weeks, I’d become so defiant at work that human resources had to sit down with me and explain their policies again as though I was a fifteen-year old teenager in juvenile hall.
There wasn’t enough flexibility in my work. I couldn’t even negotiate anything with my clients. Everything has become so digitized and normalized, that my job, which was to find the best financing solutions for my clients, could have been done by a computer program.
