Chapter 24Last night, Nick finally called. There was something intense in his voice. I couldn’t resist it. When the cab pulled up by Split’s back door, I climbed out and turned my face to Nick’s window. Through the thin curtains, I caught sight of his dark silhouette moving along the loft’s bare walls. Standing in the vacant lot behind the restaurant, I pressed my hat against my chest, tapping my heel to the beat of my own heart. Not knowing to expect, I climbed the wrought iron stairs.
