chapter three - unexpected encounter

"That was the worst movie ever!" I screamed, rushing off from the bed and into the kitchen, beginning the hunt for food for my poor stomach which has been starving to death.
"It wasn't that bad," Bruce argued, I rolled my eyes at him. It was probably the worst movie I had ever watched. He probably enjoyed watching it because it was full of s*x and disturbing scenes.
"It was so gross; don't try to change my opinion on that horrifying movie. My parents are less scary than those characters in the movie!" I cried, pulling a tub of ice cream from the fridge.
I collapsed down on the couch with Bruce.
His apartment was empty and the lights were dimmed down, neither of us liked the white lights in this place so we always choose to keep it low. Bruce lived alone, all by himself, I never asked about his parents since he didn't like that topic but I did definitely knew about his girlfriend. Sometimes his girlfriend used to come over but that only lasts for couple days as she lived in another state.
Apart from that I never saw any of his friends in this apartment. It was a luxurious place and if I lived here, I would throw parties all day long and be high most of the time.
Bruce pulled me out of my thoughts by grabbing the bucket of ice cream from me. I pouted, looking at him.
"Why?" I cried, "Give Wendy her ice cream!" I continued in a sad tone as the metal spoon slid down my lips.
"You are not eating ice cream anymore, let's go out and get something to eat." He said, placing the tub back in the fridge. I narrowed my eyebrows together as he waved me to put on my shoes.
"Pizza?" I questioned while tying my laces.
"Whatever you want, queen." He closed his eyes and accepted my demand like I was an actual queen. I laughed and pushed him slightly.
"I am no queen,"
"Yes, you are, my queen baby." He flirted grabbing my hand and kissing it. I pulled away instantly.
"I am so telling Sierra that her king is cheating with another queen." I said while laughing hard.
"Please don't, she will take away my kingdom and kill me!" he sobbed, opening the door of his house and walking out with me. He then continued to lock his apartment before walking alongside with me in the empty hallways.
The building he lived in was expensive compared to the other buildings around. Sometimes I wonder where he gets all this money since he rarely goes for work but I brushed it off. I am in no position to ask him how he gets his money.
"How is she anyways?" I questioned Bruce about his girlfriend, Sierra. Without doubt, she's a wonderful woman. I really adored her and her bright personality.
"She's fine, my true queen is paying me a visit." He said, scurrying his eyes away from mines. There was endless love for Sierra in his eyes and I could see that even if he didn't want me to see it.
"Awh, that's so good. When is she coming?" I asked, rolling my hand over his shoulder.
"Probably by this week or next week, I am not sure, it isn't decided yet but she is coming soon!" He said excitingly.
"Can't wait to see her, so I can tell her that you are cheating." I joked as we approached the elevator, he giggled with me as we pressed the button. Standing on 30th floor, it would definitely take time for the lift to reach up here.
We both started to laugh and push each other while joking about Bruce's relationship with Sierra and me.
"We should have threesome someday!" I screamed in the hallway, grabbing the buttons of his shirt. As friends, we had a great sense of humor and mind that, it would occasionally get very s****l.
"Please, Wendy, don't r**e me." He laughed as he pushed me away, I tripped on my shoes and carried myself backwards before falling down on the floor, however, my back didn't come in contact with the ground instead I fell in the arms of someone.
"s**t," Bruce exclaimed, running towards me and picking me up but before he could the unknown man did.
"I am sorry, I wasn't looking. I hope I didn't hurt you." I stuttered, my words were spilling everywhere and my anxiety was kicking in. I turned around to see the person who helped me out.
My eyes widen in shock to see someone very familiar standing in front of me and holding me securely. My mouth turned into an 'o'. Memories of that drunken night ran back, I surely did see this man somewhere but where?
"It is okay darling, just be careful next time. We don't want you to trip everywhere, do we?" He whispered softly as he pulled me up. Before I could even reply or stare at his gorgeous face, Bruce's body covered my vision.
"Stay away," Bruce warned, I started to get confused by this conversation. Did Bruce know about this man? Even if he did, why would he say him to stay away, not like he did anything in the first place.
I peeked from his shoulders to study that unknown man in front of Bruce, memories were scattered everywhere about that night. He was the guy I saw with Marco...I guess? I started to question my own thinking at this point.
"Calm down, brother, I was just helping her." The man said, placing his hand over Bruce's shoulder. Bruce didn't seem happy with this all neither did I.
Why can't he go away? Why does he has to touch bruce and call him brother??
"I mean it, Stephan, stay away!" Bruce yelled, pushing the guys hand away from his shoulder. The guy was backed up to the wall by Bruce, for some reason there was a lot of anger in his eyes. They both looked at each other like they were enemies.
"Sorry brother, she's not mine." the guy named Stephen placed his hands up before walking away quietly. Bruce and I watched him walk away into some apartment nearby.
"Who was he? Did you know him?" I questioned, brushing the dirt of my jeans. Bruce folded his hands across his chest and walked back into his apartment.
"Excuse me? We have to go get pizza." I cried, was he going to starve me for another couple of hours? He crashed on the couch and began to rub his forehead. I looked at him with confusion.
I sat beside him. "Is everything fine?" I asked.
"Do you know that guy?" He asked me instead of answering my question, I shook my head but then remembered that I had seen him that day.
"I actually saw him with that guy who dropped me off home. But I only saw him like once or twice and he didn't even look at me." I explained. He was there everywhere that night, he probably knew me.
"What was the guys name again? The guy that dropped you off to your house while you were drunk?" He asked.
"Marco," I replied, his name rolling off my tongue made butterflies spark in my stomach, definitely felt sick but cute for some reason.
"s**t!" He cried in stress before rolling back into the couch. He closed his eyes for a second and then opened them again.
"What's wrong?"
"The guy you tripped on outside was Stephen and he has a friend named Marco." he said.
"So?" I asked, what was he trying to imply?
"So that these two people are the very dangerous criminals."
"WHAT??" I screamed out of shock.
"Yes, if the man you met that night is this guys friend then you are in deep trouble. If the Marco I am thinking dropped you off, then you are in deep shit." He explained, I sighed.
"What do you mean? I don't know them or whoever they are. He just dropped me off, he doesn't has my number or name or anything." I tried to remain calm, I needed to know the details quickly as possible without creating a fuss.
"Stephan is a dangerous person and from the look on his face, I believe he knows you. The way he spoke to you makes it so clear that he knew you somehow. And don't forget Wendy, the guy who dropped you off could be a possible criminal and he is taking your sister on a date." Bruce said, I began to stress more now that he had mentioned my younger sister.
"Tell me everything clearly, who are they? And how come do you know them??" I asked, his hands slipped away from mines as I questioned him.
"I got to know about them from my friends." he said nervously, his eyes were telling me something else. He was lying to me but I let it go this time.
"What do you mean by criminals? I thought there were no criminals in this part of the town so how come?" This place was probably the most safe part of the town, never have I heard any criminal activities go around here. Many people who live around here were known as business people, the security is extremely high.
"Wendy, this place, these buildings are owned by those criminals. It isn't just one person, everyone in this place has some record." Bruce explained. I looked at him fiercely. Why didn't he tell me all this before?
"Even you? Since you live here?"
His eyes narrowed down to his hands, "Yes," he replied quietly.
"Don't tell me that you have murdered someone?" I screamed, does that mean my best friend could be a criminal?
"No, of course not. I would never do that." He cleared himself out and I believed him. Bruce couldn't ever be a murderer, hell I know he would never hurt anyone innocent. I have been with him for so long and not even once he told me all this.
"Then?"
"Well, I have been in couple dealings and stuff." He didn't answer my question clearly so I asked him again.
"What dealings?"
"Drugs."
