Prologue
In the vast expanse of the horizon, where glass and steel buildings rise like titans challenging the clouds, lies the city of Lumivale. A pulsating and vibrant metropolis, Lumivale is a place of incessant transformations. Its streets are always in motion, filled with people coming and going, each with their own stories to tell. The sounds of hammers and saws echo around every corner as new constructions spring up from the ground like resilient flowers, adapting to the ever-mutating urban landscape. The architecture of Lumivale reflects the fusion of the past and the future. Historical buildings, with their ornate facades, coexist with ultramodern structures that defy gravity. The contrast is evident in the squares and parks, where green intertwines with increasingly more concrete, seeking a bit of breath amid the hustle and bustle. With each new transformation, the city reveals different facets, like a chameleon adapting to its environment, always remaining attractive and enigmatic to its inhabitants. At the heart of Lumivale, there is a girl named Asa. A shy and peculiar girl. With tousled hair and large glasses that accentuate her curious gaze, Asa often seems lost in the crowd surrounding her. For her, Lumivale is a paradox, a place where dreams intertwine with reality. As the city's lights shine brightly, Asa finds comfort in the shadows, where her imagination can roam freely, far from the frenzy that envelops her. One night, while returning from her boyfriend's house, Asa received a call from her younger twin sister, Alma, who was born just a few minutes after her. - "Hey." - says Asa, putting the phone on speaker while focusing on the road, which often found itself busy, but that night, remarkably, was lightly trafficked. - "Wow, how rude. You could be a bit more affectionate." - says Alma. - "Oh, what does my dear little sister Alminha want from this poor being trying to drive, concentrated in a fog that blankets the road? I could end up crashing if I keep talking on the phone while driving." - "How sweet. Are you coming from your nerd boyfriend's house?" - Alma says with irony. - "By talking about him that way, you are talking about me. Max and I share the same style, and just to be clear, we’re not nerds; we’re just people who find beauty in curiosity and are dedicated to understanding the world around us." - "Oh, defending the boyfriend. I’m jealous." - Alma says. - "Ah! Movie night today; I’m making popcorn for when you arrive, so we can go straight to binge-watching Twilight." - "Again? Don’t you get tired of watching those sparkling vampires?" - Asa says, knowing that on the other end of the line, her sister was rolling her eyes. - "You might find it strange that vampires sparkle like diamonds; I, on the other hand, see it as a beautiful metaphor for how life can be extraordinary, even in the shadows." - "Bla, bla, bla." - says Asa as she hears her sister huffing in frustration on the other end of the line. - "Okay, you hang up. I’m close to home, and we’re going to watch your extraordinary vampires." - "You’re the best, don’t take too long." - Alma says before quickly hanging up. Asa smiles as she turns off her phone screen, diverting her gaze from the road for just a few seconds. But when she looked back ahead, she found herself enveloped in a dense fog. - "What the hell is this?" - Asa says, trying to see the road in front of her. It was then that, amid the gloom, a shadow abruptly emerged in her line of sight. The roar of an engine echoed like a scream, and in a split second, Asa realized the danger. The car swept across the lane, sliding like a bird caught in a storm; there was no time to think. The impact was abrupt and deafening, a collision between the ephemeral and the fatal. In an instant, the mist surrounded her, and in the next, her world became a confusion of flashing lights and dancing shadows. Asa had crashed head-on with another car. The accident was severe, and she was completely bloodied and dazed. With a strength she didn’t know where it came from, she tried to open the door, but it was stuck. That’s when she looked at the other car, which was also completely destroyed and, at that moment, beginning to catch fire. The strong smell of smoke and gasoline left her even more disoriented; she was losing consciousness bit by bit. Asa knew she couldn’t sleep, and she fought to stay awake. However, she wasn’t strong enough, and everything suddenly faded to darkness.
