While the Viscount plunged into sporting activities, his wife seemed content with doing very little. She left all the arrangements of the household to him and she seemed content to do nothing. Although he thought it strange, it was a long time later that he faced the depressing truth. His wife was doping herself every day into a state, while, although she was still looking amazingly beautiful, she really was incomprehensible. The Viscount started off as anyone else would have done by confronting her with the dangers of what she was doing. He begged her, for his sake and for the sake of the future, not to drug herself senseless. At first she denied her habit utterly. Then he found that her lady’s maid and the Greek manservants she had brought with her were supplying her with the drugs
