Chapter 13 Minx

Elijah practically shoved Belinda out of his way as he stormed up to Kiara. He leaned his head down studying her face before he snapped his dark lethal glare over at Draven. “What did you do to her?” Elijah growled, pulling Kiara into his chest gently as he ran his hand through her hair. “Are you okay? What did he do?” Kiara pushed back from him shaking her head. “What are you talking about? He didn’t do anything to me.” She tried to step back but he kept her in his powerful embrace. He held her by her side as he examined her face. “Your eyes are watery…” He said softly, watching her cheeks flush. “It is nothing…” Kiara pursed her lips as her eyes traveled behind him to Belinda. Why were they together? It made her think about what Jhett had said. He said his partner was all over him. She felt a small prick inside of her chest as Belinda stepped up closer to them. “It is not nothing.” Eli said, moving one of his hands up to Kiara’s cheek. “I want to know about every tear. No matter what has caused it. Even if it is just a speck of dust. Each tear is precious to me because they are yours.” “I’d say a speck of dust is actually an accurate statement.” Draven said thoughtfully as Eli’s eyes shifted to him. “Insignificant person… speck… same thing.” Eli instantly put the connection together and his eyes were back on Kiara’s. “I’ll kill him. What happened?” Kiara shook her head. “Nothing, honestly. It just made me start thinking is all.” She watched as his eyes softened as a small frown reached his lips. “I’m sorry… I—” Elijah began, but Kiara cut him off. “It isn’t anything worth talking about.” She looked over at Belinda and then back at him. “Are we not having lunch?” She could see the annoyance instantly in his eyes as a scowl formed on his lips. “I have to complete a project with my partner first. Can we reschedule for dinner?” Eli said with apologetic eyes. Before Kiara could answer Belinda clicked her tongue. “I don’t get it. If you guys are mates, why haven’t you marked each other yet?” Belinda said, crossing her arms over her chest. “Excuse me?” Kiara looked up at Eli’s face, but he just stared back at her, not saying a word. “Ma-A-tes.” Belinda said, drawing the sound out. “Elijah said that you two are mates… is this not true?” Her tone changed at the end with more interest. Kiara looked back at Eli. His eyes were still glued to hers as a small smile reached his lips. “It is only you Kiara. There won’t ever be anyone else. Either you will be my mate, or I won’t have one.” “Well…” Belinda said, sucking in air through her teeth. “It is obvious you two are more serious than what I was told. No hard feelings Kiara.” “What you were told?” Draven eyed her curiously as Kiara and Eli did the same. “Yeah, I tried to partner up with another guy but he pointed me to you. He said that you were just putting on an act and that you weren’t in a committed relationship…” “What guy?” Eli growled as Kiara bit her inner lip. “Uhm… I can’t remember… he was like an airplane name I think.” “Jhett.” Kiara breathed out. “Yep! That’s him.” Belinda said as Eli let out a snarl. “I’m going to kill him.” Eli clenched his lips together as Kiara shook her head slightly. “I don’t understand. It doesn’t make any sense.” Kiara watched as Belinda shrugged. “Sure, it does. I guess he wants you for himself,” Belinda said simply. “No, that isn’t true. He has a mate. He already made his decision.” Kiara watched as Belinda shrugged. “Sounds like he regrets his decision then. I mean men are pretty simple creatures. They aren’t hard to figure out.” “Yeah… killing him is sounding better and better.” Eli’s lips curled up. “It’s twisted.” Draven’s lips curled up angrily as he stared at Kiara. “It’s bad enough what he already did but now he is trying to mess with her happiness again.” Kiara shook her head. There was no way that was true. He already claimed his mate. “I need to talk with him.” “No.” “No.” Draven and Eli made eye contact as they both replied. “No?!” Kiara scoffed, looking at both men. As if they could tell her what to do. “I want to be with you… is what I meant.” Eli looked at Kiara and sighed. “Don’t talk with him without me there.” “If you go you might end up expelled from school.” Kiara watched as a wry smile spread over Eli’s lips. “I was never here for school…” His eyes wandered over her face. “I am here for you. If I got expelled, I would just freeload in our apartment.” “Our apartment?” Belinda raised her eyebrows. “You are in the couples’ apartments?! Whoa really sorry. I seriously don’t tread on another’s turf.” “It didn’t matter what you did. My focus… and my heart is always on Kiara.” Eli said watching a pink flush stain her delicious cheeks. “Eh, you are too sweet. I am getting a cavity.” Belinda sighed and then looked at her phone. “We need to get this done so we don’t have to work tomorrow.” “This is your fault to begin with. Talking and carrying on.” Eli growled clenching his teeth. He pulled Kiara into his embrace and leaned his head down to rest in her neck. He gently inhaled her scent. “We will talk to him together. Wait for me?” “I won’t talk with him alone.” Kiara stepped back from his embrace. “Go get your stuff done.” She said nodding over towards Belinda. He kept his hands on her waist as he continued to stare at her. What was he wanting now? She watched as his eyes wandered to her lips and then back to her eyes. He hesitated for a moment before he slowly let his hands slide away from her. “What no kiss?” She teased coquettishly, knowing that was exactly what he had been contemplating. She listened to his rich deep rumble from his chest as he stepped back into her. With cobra-like movements, he grabbed her and closed the gap between them. His tongue plunged into her mouth, aggressively, as he staked his claim. It wasn’t quite the reaction she was expecting. The kiss was fiercely passionate, yet she responded with the same intensity. Once his lips touched hers, it was as if she was suffocating without him. Each time he touched her, each time he kissed her, she needed more. Something primal inside of her roared to be released. She didn’t understand it but she knew she was crazy to fool herself. She needed this man as much as she needed oxygen… maybe more. “Alright, you made your point. Don’t poke the bear.” Belinda’s voice snorted out, snapping away the maddening haze from Kiara and Eli. He broke apart from her, letting his lips rest near hers. Her sweet panting breath beat upon his lips. His eyes went to hers as he tried to study the look. She had repeatedly told him she needed time, and he kept overstepping. He didn’t mean to, but it was getting harder. What if he can’t stop next time? If they were behind closed doors, he wouldn’t have stopped. He didn’t want to go further than she was ready for. He wanted to be patient and wait, but the urge was so strong. It was beginning to overpower him. What if his beast marks her in the heat of passion? He would need to be careful, or he could create another scar on her heart. He couldn’t bear it if she ended up despising him. Kiara felt his lips brush over the tip of her nose before he pulled away. There was an odd look in his eyes. She only saw it for a second but then it was gone. “I shouldn’t be too long… I’ll see you back at the apartment?” Eli said quietly. Even his tone seemed a bit off. Everything seemed fine a moment ago… so what changed? Kiara nodded her head at him as she watched him turn to Belinda. “Alright, let’s get this over with.” Eli groaned. He looked at her once more before turning to walk away. Kiara watched quietly as Eli and Belinda walked to the next building, going out of sight. “Well, there is no denying the chemistry between you two, huh?” Draven joked and then frowned as he looked at Kiara’s concerned face. “You don’t think there is something up with him and Belinda, do you?” He watched as she shook her head slowly and chewed on her inner lip. “What is bothering you?” “I don’t know… something seemed a bit off with him…” Just then her stomach let out a loud rumble and she blushed, glancing up at a laughing Draven. “Since your lunch plans have been canceled, would you like to join me?” Draven nodded his head towards the cafeteria. “Yes, please.” She said, still feeling slightly embarrassed. It was probably nothing. She was just still foggy from their intense kiss. She talked quietly with Draven as they made their way to the cafeteria. She teased him that students weren’t on the menu, so he’d have to settle for pig blood. Vampires didn’t have to have human blood to survive. In fact, they could eat rare meat and it satisfied their needs. “Yes, Court, I’ll make sure I get some for you. Yes, I know. I made sure I filed a complaint with the headmaster for you, but they said there would be no disciplinary action for Professor Locke…. No…. They said it is within his rights as a professor. Okay, the food is done, I am on my way back.” Kiara listened to the familiar voice in front of her on the phone. She watched as Jhett grabbed two brown paper bags and turned to leave the cafeteria. “Easy, Kiara.” Draven whispered as Jhett looked up at them. “You promised, Eli.” “I promised I wouldn’t talk to him alone… and I am not alone.” She smirked up at Draven, who chuckled and looked down at her. “Well, aren’t you a clever minx.” “Kiara…” Jhett murmured, acknowledging her as he was about to walk by. “Hold on a minute, Jhett. I would like to speak to you.” Kiara watched as he stopped and turned to face her. He held up the bag and frowned. “It isn’t a good time. Courtney still hasn’t been feeling well since her class with the hands-on professor. This is food to help her stomach.” “So you very much love your mate?” Kiara asked, making him move his head back with his eyes furrowed. “What does that mean?” “It means why would you tell someone that Eli and I aren’t really together? I mean we are living in the couple’s apartment. What are you trying to pull here?” “Now what a minute, Kiara, don’t get upset. I was just testing him to see if he was really into you. I was checking his loyalty.” Kiara snorted and let out a dry laugh. “Oh, that is rich coming from the man who left me the second he smelled his mate.” “I don’t want you hurt like that again. I was trying to protect you—” “So, you aren’t interested in Kiara at all? You weren’t purposely trying to break her and Elijah up?” Draven interrupted him, studying the man’s face. “I… I have a mate.” His eyes met with Kiara’s, and he briefly pursed his lips together. “And speaking of Courtney, she needs me right now. Excuse me.” Jhett said hastily as he briskly began to walk away. “Jhett!” Kiara barked out, making him freeze. He turned his head to the side to look at her without fully facing her. “Nothing like this will ever happen again… or else you will be dealt with accordingly.” She watched as he nodded and then scurried away. “What do you think?” Draven asked, glancing at Kiara. “I don’t know.” Kiara pondered to herself for a moment, then looked over at Draven. “He would do something like that. It doesn’t sound uncharacteristic. He often did dumb things to get results.” Draven let out a loud sigh and shrugged. “Keep an eye on him. He is one of those characters that it is best not to trust.” He looked over as Kiara nodded her head. He then cleared his throat and gave her a crooked smile. “So do you want to talk about your living arrangements with the bear?” She laughed and smiled at him brightly. “That sort of happened unintentionally…” “But you don’t mind it...” Draven said pointedly, keeping a smirk on his lips. “I thought I did at first… but I don’t.” Draven smiled and placed his hand on her shoulder. “Come on, let’s get you fed.” Note: Book is on hold
