Apparently I'm at Ruby's house, there are guests all over but i know Ruby should be be back by now, i have been anxiously waiting for her and to say I'm nervous is an understatement, I'm literally shaking, i know i asked her something i couldn't do on my own but she said she was only doing it because she loves me. I remember what she told me and I chuckle
"You know I'm only doing this because she's my friend,my best friend for that matter, you're an i***t who deserves no mercy, you should ask her on your own" she had shouted at me over the phone.
When my dad left the office, she was the only one who could help me, of course she's the reason Brianna was coming back, so i had to call her, i literally begged her on my behalf and after several attempts, she finally agreed and here I am waiting for her to come back.
I wasn't concentrating at work the whole damn day, i couldn't just wait for evening to come so I'd drive to Ruby's place and wait up for her.
Immediately after i closed the office door behind me, it was around six o'clock in the evening, Dominic drove straight to my house, I took a quick shower, packed a few clothes and necessities then drove myself to my uncle's place,i gave Dominic an off.
"Bruce are you okay? You've been staring into the space for minutes now?" My aunt, Ruby's mom, asks and I immediately turn to look at her,i smile back at her reassuringly.
"Yes I'm fine Aunty, I'm just waiting up for Ruby" i say trying hard to compose myself
"Don't worry about her, she is a grown woman and can make her own decisions, i believe she's on her way here, if she's not here in ten minutes, I'll have to call her,tomorrow is her big day and she is supposed to get enough sleep"
"Yeah you right Aunty, I'm happy for her i can't believe she's getting married before me" i say jokingly
"Yeah you'll be the only bachelor in the house, you should get a lady and marry by the way, you know time is really moving" she says and sits next to me
"Haha aunty I'm good despite i don't feel like marrying right now, i haven't found the right girl to marry"
"You had found yourself one, you guys looked happy together i wonder what transpired between you two, i believe you'll work things out and get back together" she says and i swallow hard.
For the six years Brianna has been outside the country for her studies, no one really knows what went wrong except for a few including my parents, her family, Ruby and Bailey maybe, i never wanted the world to know I f****d up, although most of the people know that we just broke up and she went abroad.
"Brianna! I still love you" i say more to myself
"Everything happens with a reason Aunty, i believe one day I'll be settled with the love of my life"
"Yeah just like i always dreamt and i got married to the love of my life, your uncle, he was a great man but unfortunately died before he had a chance to see his daughter grow, I'm sure he would be happy walking his daughter down the aisle, he was always proud of her" she says and stares at the family photo on the wall, it was a family photo they took while Ruby was in her sixth grade.
I take her hands and place them in mine and rub them reassuringly
"Uncle was a great man,he may not be here to witness his daughter's wedding but I know he's happy wherever he is, he is always watching over you all" i say trying to reassure her and she nods whole wiping the lone tear that is threatening to fall
Most of my aunts are busy in the house, some cracking jokes while some watching, my parents said they would be at the wedding tomorrow morning since they had a lot to do and I had to come to represent them.
The door bell rings and on of my cousins run to answer it, Ruby walks in smiling and when she sees the state her mother is in, she frowns.
"Mom what is going on here? Why are you sad, Bruce what did you do to her?"
"Relax baby, Bruce did nothing, we were just reminding ourselves if your dad was around he would have been proud of you" aunty says and Ruby hugs her
"Relax mom, dad is always watching over us, even though he might not have been around to watch me grow into a big girl, he may not have attended my graduation but i know his spirit is always watching over us, you don't have to worry, despite tomorrow is a big day to me, you should be happy mom"
"I'm happy sweetie don't worry" aunty says and Ruby releases her from her hug and proceeds to sit next to her such that she's sandwiched between us.
"By the way Bruce where is your mom"
"She couldn't make it tonight but promised to be here early tomorrow morning"
"Ooh okay no problem, honey why don't you take something to eat?"
"Don't worry mom, I'm full, i ate at Brianna's place, the food was sweet you guys should actually taste Barry's food" Ruby says heartily
"Who is Barry?"
"Brianna's white boyfriend, you should see him mom, so tall and handsome, those blue dreamy eyes, jeez he's just a whole package" Ruby blabbers and i can't help but feel sting of pain surge through me.
"Wow! You blabbering honey and why would you drool over a guy on the eve of your wedding day?" Tatiana my cousin chips in and i just realize that she has been following our conversation keenly
"Huh like you won't drool over him when you see him, relax you'll see him tomorrow at the wedding, you'll tell me later, he's a hunky by the way" Ruby says while winking at Tatiana and she jus laughs it off
"So you mean Brianna is dating that famous chef from California?" Her mom asks astonished and I'm just numb following their conversation
"Yes mom, he's a famous chef"
"I didn't know that anyway i hope she's happy, that's all that matters"
"Now that's her part to answer, anyway I'll leave you guys for now, I'll be back in a jiffy, I need to talk to Bruce about something very crucial" she says and grabs my hands.
I sigh in relief, i really want to hear about her feedback
"Okay okay i hope you two ain't planning on having a secret after party without us" Tatiana says and i can't help but laugh at her silly joke
"And Ruby?" Her mom calls her when we're just getting to the stairs leading to her room
"Yes mom?"
"Don't stay up too late, you have a long day ahead, your make up artist will be here tomorrow morning so you know what is needed of you"
"Okay mom, I know, goodnight i love you"
Once we are in her room, i pull a seat and sit down on it while facing her, my mind is racing and in turmoil, I'm really flurried and I'm already fiddling with the scatter cushions on the armrest
"So i talked to Brianna about what you asked me to do"
"And?"
"Well there is still some hope"
"Are you sure?"
"Well to be candid with you and gauging from her replies, there's still some hope"
"What did she say exactly"
"She said she is not ready yet but she is not going to chase you around, you gotta show her that you really need her back because you the one that f****d up not her"
"I have no problem with that, what about that white guy, doesn't she love him?"
"I didn't ask her about that, i did what you asked me to do"
"Okay thanks cousin i owe you one"
"Not one, you owe me much and by the way I think her relationship with Barry is just platonic"
"I guessed so"
"Why would you say so?"
"Because I've been keeping close tabs on her, i only guessed that maybe they're doing that for a show"
"In short you've been stalking her" she asks creasing her brows and i just shrug." You never cease to amaze me anyway the ball in in your court, do the right thing and don't f**k up"
"I won't, i promise, i love her I'll do anything possible to win her back"
"Okay all the best"
As i walk out of her room, there is some part of me that is extremely happy, at least she still cares about me, so all i have to do is show her that i really need her back, a second chance maybe? To prove my love to her
