Chapter 1

I sit on my bed in shock. I can't believe it. In the span of an hour my entire life has changed. All because I had a failed relationship. I get up and pack the 1 suitcase I am allowed trying not to let the tears I feel building up in my eyes fall. One of the chosen. I don't feel special. Being married to an actual alien. This f*****g sucks. I shove a few photos into my bag. Me and my mom and dad, They've been deceased for almost 5 years. Me and my brother. He's strung out somewhere. I am pretty much alone which makes me perfect to be recruited. I pick up a bottle of perfume. I don't wear it, but its all I have left of my grandmother. f*****g earth. f*****g America. I hate them all. I shove my Star Wars hoodie into my bag. Its the closest to a comfort item as I will get. I throw a few more clothing items into the bag. My favorite blu rays. I can't live without my Star Wars and my Harry Potter movies. For good measure I toss in my Spike Lee Joints too. He can learn about black entertainment. Ok let me zip it up. Then drag it down the stars.
I head into the kitchen. Cookies. They may not have these. I toss the package into the bag. f*****g alien food. I'm mad as hell but there isn't a damn thing I can do about this. I put two bottles of wine in . 1 from my 2017 trip to Venice, The other from our last family trip to Paris. The one where I discovered that my bastard husband was having an affair with our would be surrogate. I take it out. Good wine. Not good times. It can stay. I look around when I hear the knock at the door.
I'm not ready for this s**t. I'm just not.

I watch on the monitor as the agents complete the pick up of my earth bride. I'm not ok with this arrangement but as long as she can bear kids and cook a decent meal, it will do I guess. Her housing unit is unimpressive. It looks like a cubicle. All the ones on this stretch of land, excuse me, this neighborhood do. It's disgusting. No individuality. All block shaped with a angled top. All various hues of browns and yellows or whites. The agents ring the bell. I watch as they wait and finally she comes to the door. Besides her picture in the bride directory, this is my first time seeing her. She is not unattractive. Her skin is a nice brown. Her hair looks a little different. Those are uh curls I believe is what they were referred to. I make a mental note to check the translation book. I pride myself on being able to speak the mother tongue of several different systems. Earth had a variety of languages. Spanish, French and Swahili are my favorites. English is just.. Well, not my favorite. I hope she speaks Spanish. So many English words I have trouble with. She looks worried but beautiful. The red top she is wearing fits her perfectly. Her leg coverings seem to provide little protection. Very flimsy. I remind myself she is not a warrior. She was one who worked in a hospital . A healer. She looks beautiful. She won't be working anymore. It is my understanding she will be what the earthlings call a house wife. I make enough turrins to have a family and not have my wife work. I listen as the agents introduce themselves. They confirm she is Renessa Muran. She tells them just a moment and retreats into the domicile. Her voice is beautiful. Melodic. I find myself wanting to hear more. I see her come back . Her face is triste. Sad. I guess maybe she has an attachment to this abode. She will still see it. It will be our off world abode. The moment I picked her from the selection and paid the government fee, her belongings became ours, no longer just hers. Just as mine on Turan became half hers. They lead her to the truck and I watch and wait. They should arrive at the port within 30 minutes.

I was terrified. The men who came to get me were definitely human but I know who they work with. They were polite enough. They helped me with my allotted items into the waiting GMC truck. Leather interior. Nothing says hey thanks for agreeing to screw an alien until you die so we can be safe like nice leather. Oh and the "Congratulations Basket" on the seat was just a lovely touch. I open it and thumb through. A tour of Turan, your new home world holo, a bag of gummy worms. Interpretation pills. Condoms. Chocolate. A vacuum sealed bag of clothing best for your new home-world. One size fit all. Of course. And a Keurig. So you can make that perfect cup of coffee after some hot alien s*x and watching holos of your new home world. I knew from watching the "so you're going to be a bride" holo that my new husband would also have a gift for me when we met in the signing room. I was not expected to give him a gift. I was his gift. Or would be. We were expected to consummate the marriage within 3 days of arriving at his home. WooHoo! Yay! Can't wait! I wonder if space shuttles have barf bags. This vehicle should have them. I mean, hey, you're off to marry some alien dude that you have no idea how he looks. All you know is humanoid and male and most likely possesses some kind of p***s. Usually. I've heard some alien women maybe ,alien female is better get their husbands from earth. Either way, I would give anything not to be heading to this port right now. I look at my watch. I have about 18 more minutes left of being me. I open the mini bar and take out the 2 tequilas and down them quickly. I hope they have tequila where I'm going. I understand importing is easy but sometimes you just can't wait. I sat back and ate the chocolates. What else could I do? All too soon the New Orleans Port pulled into view. I'm still not ready.
