Choosing The Omega

SELENE’S POV I could see by the look I was getting from my parents that they disapproved of what I was doing with Alexis. They had refused to accept that I loved him and I chose to see beyond his class, they insisted that I deserved someone who was from a higher class and someone who would be able to help me carry the family name with me. Being the only daughter of the moon goddess had its advantages and disadvantages and this was one of the disadvantages. However, being in Alexis's arms helped me forget about all the stabbing eyes that I was getting not only from my parents but also from everyone else who had attended the party. Alexis wasn’t even supposed to be here but I refused to attend without him. Of course, after my parents realized that I was serious about not attending the party without him they were willing to compromise even if it went against what they wanted for me. The worst thing that could happen to my mom was for her to throw a mating ball in my honor only for me to refuse to go, so she knew she had to compromise. “Can I have your attention” my mother, the goddess said and everyone stopped dancing and I reluctantly let Alexis go “As you all know that my daughter has come of age and it is time for her to find a suitor” she continued, I had known that the mating ball was thrown in my but I never even for a single second suspected that the party was like a blind date for me. I thought I would be given a chance to find my mate which I was sure had, but I could tell with the way my mum was acting that I had been wrong. “Her father and I have found the perfect man that will taker her as his mate,” my mother said and when I looked over at Alexis I could see the despair clear in his eyes. Both of us knew that he wasn’t the man my parents had chosen for me. “Adonis…if you would please” my mother said as she referred to the worst man that she could have possibly chosen for me. Prince Adonis the most narcissistic man from the sun realm, had realized that there was no way that he would rule that realm and reign as a god there so he figured that I would be his next best option. “This is the man that I have chosen for my daughter” my mother announced as Adonis approached her on the stage and then the whole room erupted in applause as if Adonis would be the best thing that had ever happened to me or the entire kingdom. “Selene, could you please join me up here,” she asked me and I stood there as if my feet were glued to the ground “It's ok, you can go” Alexis whispered and I looked at him teary-eyed. Why did he have to be so humble when I wanted him to fight for us but then again even if he fought for us he would lose that fight. I slowly approached the stage as I kept looking back at Alexis as if he would reach out to me and tell me to come back to him but he did no such thing. “Alexis, you can excuse us now,” my mother said to him before I could even say anything to protest that, the guards were already escorting him out. “Don't be shy my dear stand next to your other half,” she said with a smile “No mom couldn’t we have discussed this first? I mean couldn’t you have found someone else for me?” I whispered to her “Not now Selene, I will not allow you to embarrass me” she whispered back at me while she tried her best to fake a smile for the audience as she pushed me towards Adonis “I don’t want him,” I said as the tears that had been welling up in my eyes finally made their way down my face “Adonis you can have her she is yours,” my mother said and I felt my world shatter as she said those words. Why was she handing me over to him like I was some kind of piece of furniture? “This is the best day of my life,” Adonis said with a wide smile as he reached for my arm “I have had better days, but I have no doubt this is the highlight of your pathetic life," I said through my teeth, I was so angry at him for being happy about this. And he was probably right when he said that this was the best day of his life, I mean I couldn’t imagine anything else happening in his boring life to make him this happy. To him, I was a catch and to me, he was a curse. “I propose a toast,” Adonis’s father said raising his glass, I looked at him with resentment. Everyone from the sun realm must have been having the time of their lives because they were finally rid of Adonis, and my mother wasn’t even realising that she was letting parasites enter our moon lands. I watched the bright smiles that were suddenly plastered on everyone’s faces as they raised their glasses, was I the only one who could see what was happening here? couldn’t these people see that they were being taken advantage of and I was being used as part of a grand scheme? And what about Alexis? I couldn't bear the thought of what he had been feeling when we both realized that we would not be given the chance to be together, the look in his eyes as he was escorted out by the guards as if he was nothing was just heartbreaking for me. In their eyes, he was nothing but in mine, he was the love of my life and I couldn’t imagine my life in any dimension or realm without him. I knew that if I showed resistance they would soon banish him and throw him into the earthly realm and I couldn’t allow that to happen but it was out of my control. However, if my mother did decide to take that route with him she would run the risk of losing me too because I would follow him and look for him until I found him. I knew my choice would bring shame to my mother and my kingdom, but there was no shame in loving someone unconditionally and with no limits.
