Carter orders the drone back and in minutes the fire is stepped out, the boy is on Acera’s back and the group is on the move once more. There is no point in staying to see what may follow. Their only mission now is to reach Elah as soon as possible and tell him what they have seen. They all silently pray that he can be found in time. Acera doubts it just as much as Sutaura, but Carter spurs them on and assures them that if anyone expected something like this, it would have been Elah. Perhaps dead men do tell tales, Carter thinks as they flag down and h****k a vehicle which will see them out of the sector, if only that.
They break down, on the outskirts of the sector, near an auto museum. Sutaura and Carter scan the street and head inside.
“Won’t all of these machines be decommissioned?”
