He lay there stunned for a moment, since the wind had gotten knocked out of him, but recovered enough that after a moment he pulled the guy out of the roadway, just in case another carriage who wasn’t paying attention came along.
The worst part was, that the driver didn’t even stop. He thought he had been distracted and wasn’t watching the roadway because he could see him finally react just as he passed them. For a second it looked like like he was going to stop and check on everyone, then the lights went out and he accelerated away from them. Sometimes people are such cowards.
The guy’s friends got to them and helped them pull him the rest of the way out of the road, while one of them took off down the road, saying he thought there was a resting place nearby he could call for help from.
