Legaxy Dyme

"Dyme!"
Our General Manager, Ms. Susie Marina Dawn, calls out from her office.
Hearing that familiar urgency from her tone, I automatically dropped every bit of work I had on hand and quickly walk towards her office's glass door; caring less for the loud click-clacking my silver-gray high heels are making as it hits the marble-tiled floor.
When I got inside the well-lighted white room, I calmly replied, "Yes Boss?"
Sadly, she didn't look up as I announced my presence.
Instead, she shoved a few objects off her porcelain desk — which I luckily caught as I entered her space. Then, as she realized something was not there, she proceeded to rummage through the stacked files on the left side of her desk. Furthermore, as I went in closer to her side, I heard her grunt in an un-ladylike fashion and I knew from there that she was in panic mode.
The tension, as she tries to relieve by rolling her shoulders, was even visible in her eyes — which I would like to mention, happens to be light blue; like the sky — as she frantically scans the messy desk.
What in the world is she doing?
Judging by the looks of it, as I carefully observe her, she's searching for something that I presumed to be valuable.
... And if I guess it right, Ms. Dawn was searching for the morning paperwork.
Sure, it could be something else and I could have assumed this wrong. But, nothing could freak her out like this unless it was two things; One is the sudden weekly reports that fall on a Friday deadline, and two is the Monday morning rush which includes the last week's stack of untouched reports and contracts.
— So since it's Monday today, I guarantee it is the latter that is happening right now.
I let out a sigh upon realizing what was going on. I then casually walked around her office — not forgetting to place the objects I had caught earlier, mostly stamps and pens, at a safer space and distance.
Finally, I search for the said files — for as far as I could remember, I safe keep them in one of these steel drawers.
Shortly after, and having to have sensed my presence, Ms. Dawn started babbling about missing royal contracts and documents while her hands kept on searching; flipping sheet after sheet of both long and short paper bonds.
"Dyme, thank goodness you're here! Quick, do you happen to see where this pile of," she made weird signs indicating a pile, "You know, the one I asked you to..."
She paused and, eventually, trailed off leaving me fascinated by her frantic state.
Anyway, getting what she meant, and already having my suspicion of what she was looking for, I made my way to her side drawer which was found on the far right side of her office space. I then pulled out the files I was thinking of and when I set them on her table, she instantly stopped talking. She eyed me for a bit, clearly startled by the stack I just placed on her desk. Then, as she got out of the daze, her eyes went back to the pile, and upon discovering what it was, she slowly calmed herself down. Every pressure on her body eased and the frustration, which was previously represented by a frown on her oval-shaped face, was gone.
However, realizing something was wrong, Ms. Dawn glanced back at me, and this time, she looked annoyed.
— And just like that, I knew what she meant by that stare...
Working for Ms. Dawn; being her secretary for two years now, I considered myself a sister to her.
Not on a relative degree, but rather on a level completely different from what an employee should have with her big boss, which is great because it made everything between us so easy to read and understand. May this be just a single sigh of happiness, to the most complicated blabbering you could have ever imagined; it was as if we have an invincible bond between us — and only our subconscious minds knew.
Or that's how I presumed it...
So when I say I know what she meant by that stare, I know very well WHAT SHE MEANT BY THAT STARE: She speculated that I pranked her with the documents; made her look like a maniac a while ago, while I silently laugh at her dilemma.
"You ordered that to be tucked away, SAFELY," I hurriedly explained to avoid any misunderstanding between us.
Understandably, she looked skeptical at first but when I pointed to the sticky note she wrote last week on top of the pile, she quickly blushes from embarrassment.
"Oh," was all that she could utter at the moment.
"Should I be glad that most of your old habits die hard?" I lightly teased.
The blue-eyed lady could only roll her eyes.
"You should be glad I did not tear the place down or you'll be left here to do the janitor's job."
"As long as you pay me the night deferential Boss, then it's fine by me."
Ms. Dawn could only snort at my response.
"Too bad, the owner does not allow dual functions due to the enormous paycheck you, Secretaries receive every month... Better luck next time on your pun, sweetheart."
She then smirked as she noticed the smile I had from before fell into a frown.
"How unfortunate... Guess that's your way of saying I'm stuck with this day job forever, huh?"
"Well, unless you have other offers out there that give you a luxury other than the salary, then yes... yes you are here forever, with me."
I pouted at her and that got her laughing.
Regardless of the exchange of wits, I felt relief seeing her wrinkled eyebrows grow smooth and the blush of embarrassment that appeared on her cheeks gone. Moreover, I would rather have a fun and easy-going boss here than a stressful one — for it will be a living hell on earth if someone is not happy and relaxed.
Especially on a Monday morning...
"Okay, chop-chop then. We have a lot of work to do Boss." I announced while opening my notebook where I have written her schedule for the week.
"Wait! I wanna know if you did what I..."
"Yes, I did boss. I compiled that stack based on what you asked me to," I stated, cutting her off. "All the things you need to sign today are on the top. Especially the contracts for the next week's event. The rest that is not that important, yet requires you're opinion is down there."
Listening to this, she quickly got back to her usual composure and demeanor — which happens to be her calm and collected one, while slowly scanning the first page of the report with her eyes.
She then muttered, "Yet, is it in..."
"Absolutely Boss," I interrupted once more, "as per instruction, I got it in alphabetical order."
For some, this may be kind of rude but cutting her off like this is just as normal as getting her to talk about gossip. Yes, this goes to show how close we are... Not a big deal here honestly, that is why she kept on nodding her head while paying attention to me.
"Good, that's very good..." She mumbled while putting on her eyeglasses and, with cool eyes, started to scribble a few things on the paper. "So, any agenda today?" she quickly added.
"Only one boss," I declared, promptly checking my notes for confirmation. "It's a meeting at 1:00 pm... with Mr. Heinz Black."
Hearing the name, she instantly paused and throw another glance at me; her current cold stare was chilling that it almost made me shiver on the spot.
"The same issue?"
I nodded.
"Yes boss, same concern... with the werewolves," I murmured the last part for consideration since Ms. Dawn has other matters to focus on.
Still, she heard it as she let out a heavy sigh.
"This will be the sixth time this week... What is going on here?"
She became silent then, which made me believe that she was taking this news in first.
I gave her that moment as I got into thinking myself...
For the past few weeks now, we have been encountering minor incidents where our front office personnel was being attacked by our werewolf guests.
Most of it, as I have learned, was anger issues — which were kind of normal for their kind. Some were pure dissatisfaction and misunderstanding from our customer service. Others were because of jealousy — mating season nowadays, while a few were high tensions caused by a b****y war that occurred three years ago.
The Blood War, as they all called it.
This war was mainly between three creatures, specifically the werewolves and the mixed vampire-witch clan.
I don't know much about the details but as far as my knowledge goes — mostly gossip from my co-workers, that war was the darkest among all wars that ever took place in the world;
Half of the globe was destroyed,
Other mythical species, aside from the previously mentioned, were driven to extinction,
And the worst part of it all, millions of innocent lives were involved and later, murdered for the sake of power and control.
— There was no mercy given.
Even though it was that grim, that war was somehow cut short and ended without a winner; vampires and witches almost got extinct too, while the Alpha King, he lost his mate.
Thankfully, with human intervention, the friction and grudge between the dark creatures slowly ease — and that right there was the whole point for the existence of our Hotel; promoting co-existence with all living things.
As per Ms. Dawn, since the day the Mallow Hotel opened — complete with treaties, rules, and protocols to accommodate each kind; of everyone, and that means all creatures and humans learned to co-exist with each other — there were no fights, property destruction, or disturbance in peace whatsoever. Not even death occurred in the region; It was somewhat of a miracle, to say the least.
— Still, deep wounds are not that easy to heal...
A few problems still arise and fear still exists within a few creatures, which is reasonable.
Nonetheless, never trust small things to stay small with these species; things tend to escalate quickly between enemies to a point where eye contacts turn into confrontations, and confrontations turn into fights, and fights turn into a bloodbath. So, with much patience — coupled with deep breaths and genuine smiles, we supervise and monitor to minimize that.
And yes, it can be hard to restrain and control these kinds of being.
That is why I admire my boss for that.
Just look at how she — a pure human being — handles all of it, making everything in order and calm by just talking; be this her staff or wild guests, she can tame everyone here. She's basically the peacemaker of the hotel and no one can do that except her — as if she has magic in her words and actions.
So enchanting yet powerful...
"You know what, before you jump on to things, I'll get your coffee first."
I declared with a smile.
Hearing there was coffee, she finally flashes a smile at me — her very first for the day, and, honestly, she looked younger when she smiles like that; her wrinkles from old age were nonexistent.
"Thank you, darling," she mumbled sweetly.
I cue myself to leave and as I got out, I heard her say, "What would I do without you Legaxy Dyme?"
I rolled my eyes at what she had said and continued walking to get her coffee.
