Chapter 10: Facing the Storm
The weeks that followed weren’t easy, but they were filled with small victories. Mira continued to reach out to Sarah, and she even agreed to meet a few of her other friends, though it took all of her energy. The simple act of talking about her depression, of acknowledging it, was more difficult than she had ever imagined.
There were days when the weight of it all felt too much. Mira still spent many mornings staring blankly at the walls, unable to get out of bed, the fog of depression still lingering. But there were also moments of light — moments when she felt something beyond the darkness. On those days, she celebrated the little victories: the days when she managed to get out of bed before noon, when she ate a full meal, when she texted a friend back.
There were still bad days, days when it felt like everything was slipping backward, but Mira held on to the belief that those days would pass. And even on the hard days, she could see a sliver of light, a glimmer of hope. Maybe it wasn’t much yet, but it was enough to keep her going.
One evening, as she was walking home from the café after a long day, Mira stopped for a moment. The sun was setting, casting a warm golden light across the street. The world, though still heavy with her struggles, felt a little more real than it had in a long time. She smiled softly to herself, feeling the cool breeze on her face. It wasn’t perfect, not by any means, but for the first time in a long time, Mira felt a sense of peace.
And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.
