Klempner’s car is abandoned to the front of the house, along with two strange vehicles squatting on flat tires. Slamming out from my car, I charge through the house, ignoring the blood trails and the bound and injured strangers I pass in the lounge then out through the rear exit. Almost immediately, I run into Beth, tears coursing down her cheeks. “Adam!” she shrieks. “He’s missing. So’s Cara. They were supposed to be in the creche but they’re not there.” “What happened?” “I don’t know.” Hands clasped to her head... “Lisa’s in tears.
