Chapter 13
Devin opened the door to his apartment with a feeling of trepidation. He had asked, no, begged Gary to come by so that he could talk to him. He could tell from his voice on the phone Gary had only agreed out of a feeling of obligation and the hope that it would be the last time he would ever have to see Devin in less than public circumstances.
Gary stood there, a frown pasted on his face, not an auspicious beginning Devin thought.
“You going to let me in?” Gary asked when Devin didn’t move.
“Oh, yes.” Devin stepped back then closed the door while Gary walked quickly to what had once been his usual spot on the sofa. Gary must have realized that because he veered off and sat in a chair instead.
