Candice didn't hear from Damon again for the first two days of the week at school and she began to relax thinking that he had finally got the hint. She was surprised to find herself a bit sad at that, despite herself she found him very attractive and the smell of his cologne was like an aphrodisiac. She was glum through her morning classes and even Dee finally noticed something was up.
Dee looked very different today, her hair a bright green today of all colours. She wore a funky purple tutu over black leggings and an off the shoulder black blouse. Her makeup was flawless with black mascara and eyeliner that made her beautiful eyes pop. She'd even used green lipstick to match the hair and Candice thought she looked absolutely stunning. To be honest Candice always thought she looked beautiful, the way she expressed herself with such confidence, made Candice wish she had the guts to do it as well.
Logan was sick today which made her even grumpier. Logan was the calm to her storm, able to reassure her with just a touch and she hated that he wasn't here today. As they sat down in the cafeteria, Candice pulled out a peanut butter and jelly sandwich this time, Dee wrinkled her nose and hurried off to grab something she deemed more edible.Someone sat directly opposite her and she looked up in surprise to see Damon beaming at her. "You mind?"
For a moment she felt giddy but reminded herself that he probably had an ulterior motive or was trying to win a bet or something. "Doesn't look like I have a choice" she sighed and he smiled.
She glanced at his tray and raised an eyebrow. It was absolutely packed with three croissants, two muffins, two large cookies, a banana and a small juice. "Hungry?"
He laughed a bit bashful "I'm always starving and have a high metabolism."
Dee came rushing back triumphantly "I scored the last brownie and a salad roll" she cheered, giving Damon a sidelong glance as she sat down. "If I'm interrupting I can always sit somewhere else" she said feeling awkward.
"Nonsense" Candice declared as Damon looked decidedly disappointed.
Dee glanced at Candice as she finished her sandwich. "I really wish you would eat more than a sandwich for lunch" she said shaking her head. Damon's interest peaked. He had noticed every lunchtime that Candice brought lunch and it was only ever a small sandwich. Candice blushed. She couldn't really tell them that she did it to save money or that sometimes it was all she could afford.
Instead she lied "I just don't get that hungry."
Damon pushed a muffin at her as she looked at him quizzically. "I may have put too much food on my plate" he said sheepishly. He hadn't but he wanted to see if she would eat it, starting to feel uneasy about her home situation even if he didn't know why.
Candice eyed the chocolate muffin and then shrugged. She calmly picked it up and ate it as Dee devoured her brownie and Damon continued to eat his food relieved. For a second he thought she might refuse on principle but clearly she was still hungry even if she didn't want to admit it. He made a mental note to get the guys to watch her again tonight as the bell rang. "Can I sit with you again tomorrow?"
Candice smiled "yes as long as Dee and Logan are fine with it."
Dee was more than fine with it "you got any guy friends who might want to join us" she said eagerly, making a pleading face at him as he nodded.
"I think I can organise that." He was thrown off balance as Dee hugged him and raced off fairly bouncing in her happiness.
Candice watched her go as her and Damon headed out together, Damon pausing in the doorway. "Class?"
"I've got a free period so I'm going to study in the library" she explained as he looked puzzled.
"Why don't you just go home?"
"It's quieter in the library" she lied again, feeling hot in the face. He waved as he walked off to class and she went to the library trying to forget the sparks she felt when he had accidentally brushed against her hand at the table.
Candice was halfway through her homework when a hand slapped her book close. She raised her eyes in annoyance and met the piercing gaze of Lisa of all people. Lisa was one of those girls, the head cheerleader and a spoilt b****. She had golden blonde hair (secretly Candice thought it was dyed) that cascaded down her shoulders in gentle waves. Her blue eyes were round and she had a pert little nose and full pink lips. She was short but slender, almost delicate in appearance. Her body was toned from all the exercise she did and her skin was pale and creamy. Lisa had the appearance of an angel but her personality was anything but. She was known for tormenting other girls who had hit on the boy she was interested in at the time, and took perverse pleasure in spreading rumours about people she didn't like.
Candice sighed. She really didn't need this crap while she was trying to study. "Can I help you Lisa" she said icily.
"Stay away from my guy" Lisa snapped as Candice rolled her eyes.
"Which guy should I stay away from? You have had so many now it's hard to tell who you are seeing anymore" Candice said irritated.
Lisa's jaw dropped in disbelief at the comeback. "Damon" she said tightly, clenching her fists.
"Funny he didn't mention you at lunchtime" Candice mused, fully aware that she was p****** Lisa off. She wasn't afraid of Lisa and quite frankly wasn't in the mood for BS.
Lisa raised her hand to slap her and Candice stood up, catching it in mid air and twisting Lisa's arm behind her back. She slammed Lisa facedown on the table still gripping her arm, as Lisa cried out from the impact. "Listen here you little b****" she whispered furiously "I'm not intimidated by a weak pathetic girl like you. You try this again and I will f*** you up."
She released Lisa's hand and stood back, watching in satisfaction as Lisa rubbed her arm and began to sob. "You'll pay for this" she stammered as she walked out of the library quickly.
Candice flipped her the finger and sat back down to finish her homework. Right now she had bigger things to worry about than a f*****g cheerleader who thought the world revolved around her.
