RHETT I sat in my office, staring at the empty desk across from me. The room was dimly lit, with only a single lamp providing a soft glow. The walls were lined with shelves, filled with books and trinkets that had been passed down through generations of our pack. My father had insisted that I take over this office when I became the alpha, but I never felt comfortable here. It always felt too sterile, too cold. My thoughts drifted to my mother, and the ache in my chest grew stronger. Her burial had lasted for seven long days, and now it was finally over. I had watched as they lowered her to the ground, my heart heavy with grief. I missed her so much, and I couldn’t help but think about all the things she would never get to see or experience. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts.
