[Roanna’s Pov]
“Roanna, wake up.”
“Leave me alone,” I growl at the pesky voice trying to drag me out of bed.
“Roanna, wake the hell up.” Now there are hands trying to pull me out of the bed. Isn’t that the same thing I said the first-
“Roanna, the maids are going to throw you into a pool.” I woke up fast.
“DON’T DO IT!” Zane fell on the bed laughing while I glanced all around, checking for the maid who was going to throw me into a pool. This asshole! “I want to sleep, you jerk. My... your brother put me through of emotional... Zane, Zane why are you so close?” I leaned back as he crawled closer with a smile.
“We are going out.”
“But I have to get my dragon today. We can’t go-”
“Relax, it’s gonna be fun. Now, come on, the maids will be here to get you all dressed.” he hopped off the bed and rushed out of the room. Only to come right back in. “Sorry, I did this wrongly. Um, Roanna.... last name unknown, would you do me the honors of going on a date with me?”
“You don’t know my last name.”
“Focus on the positive.”
I let out a small chuckle. “I would love to. Thank you for asking.”
He grinned, then he made his way out.
A date? Nice. I should get a little more sleep before the..... A DATE?!
I tripped on the bed sheets on my way out of the bed. I rushed down the halls, ignoring the gaze of the guards as I tried to locate Zane. Before I could go down to the next floor, the mirage of maids came. Twelve. Gods, they won’t let me escape now.
They spent an hour making me look good for this date. What kind of date involves short black tights with these cool designs and a crop long-sleeved top? They didn’t need to exfoliate my skin for this.
And these boots. What kind of boots reach up to your knees?
“ZANE!” I slapped a hand over my mouth, and his head turned. Geez, I didn’t mean to shout. I was... I just have alot of questions. What possessed him to ask me out on a date?
“Roanna, you look lovely. Come on. Let’s go.”
“Uh. I can’t do this.” I spun around and booked it. I’m freaking out. I have never been asked out. I feel like punching, breaking, smashing something to make me feel better. To help me understand how this is supposed to work. He’s gonna resent me in the end.
I slowed down, coming to a complete halt. I can’t function like a normal person. It’s so messed up and... and I can’t breathe. I wrapped my arms around my stomach, falling to my knees as my lungs refused to work. Why can’t I breathe?
I tried gulping in air but nothing.... nothing was working.
Then hands pressed down on my shoulders. “I need you to stop forcing yourself to breathe. Stop trying.”
I stopped trying to force the air in, my body felt tense and I wanted to cry but I just couldn’t. I gasped and soon enough I could breathe again.
“I’m sorry, Zane but I can’t do this. I can’t date. I don’t know how to.”
“Neither do I. I’ve never asked anyone out. I do s*x only. I wanted us to share a first. There is this large mountain, I always love to hike it to the top. It’s gruelling but the burn feels good for the view you’re gonna get. I wanted us to talk. I wanted to know you, Roanna. Because I don’t think enough people do. What do you like to eat? What type of date charms a girl like you? Do you like over-the-top romantic gestures?”
“I stopped breathing at the thought of going on a date, you’d give me an aneurysm if you did a ro... romantic... you want to court me?”
His eyes smile, and he helps me to my feet. Keeping his arms around me.
“I don’t know yet, but I want you to have a good life.”
I glance down at my hands. “Most girls like big romantic gestures.”
“That shows how many girls you know. Women are complex and different. Some love big, while others think words, and actions are more than enough. Each girl is her own, she might share similarities with other women, but that doesn’t take away from her uniqueness. Look at me, Roanna. I want you to feel challenged this morning. We’ll hike and talk, then we’ll race to the top of the mountain. When you feel like you’re stuck in your head, just remember, the first time we met you threatened to kill me. The most impressive thing I saw that week.”
I smiled, that girl felt like she was no longer here. Like she doesn’t exist anymore. I should start implementing some of Rylan’s wise words. It might help me when I get ... like this. I mean I ran away and panicked. It’s just a date.
With the king of Soleria. Oh boy, it doesn’t get any less scary the more I think about it.
“Okay. A hike. And talking. And food right?”
“Girl, I could kiss you.”
I laughed nervously. “Give me a six-week warning first.”
Zane was all smiles and calm looks, he really has a switch. From menace too... this carefree guy.
Oh boy, I better not blow this date. I live in his castle. I might get back on the being shunned stage.
Nope, I don’t want that. Come on, Roanna, you can do this. You’re a tough alpha. You can handle one date. And one cannibalistic guy trying to get to know you. I hope they write that on my tombstone.
