Deflection

[Zane’s pov] After a few days of ignoring the elephant in the room, Rylan finally cracked and started laying down some Big Brother wisdom and judgment. I’m even surprised he waited this long to call me out. I’ve always been reckless with my decision-making. I go by feelings. Not really letting myself think about it long-term. “Having a contract with her is bad altogether. Why would you do that? If you want a child, get one with one of your solerians. Or wyndorians. They’d love to have a child for one of the kings. Why on earth would you do this? Revenge? There’s more torture in leaving her to rot in a dungeon than having her alter her DNA. That’s ..... you do realize what insemination is right? You’re expected to sleep with her once the time is right. Do you want that? To give the thief hope? And what if it works and she gets pregnant? Aspen nearly died having Rosa. And heavens knows how having Xavier all by herself was. Descendants and baby-bearing is something dangerous. If this even works... Zane stop rolling your eyes for f**k sake.” I smiled at him. My big brother everyone. He’s a darling underneath all that muscle and titan exterior. He speaks like what I’m doing is the worst thing any of us have done. Rylan is the head first leader in this plan to conquer the world as ours. He’s done worse when it called for it. He does make a lot of good points. Insemination would require me to sleep with her, the doctor said it would be more effective. If I look at Roanna from the eyes of someone without vengeance, there’s a beauty to her that is undeniable. The descendants carry an unearthly beauty. She’s tall, she’s fierce, she’d be raising hell if she wasn’t in draconia. Especially Soleria, we raise hell every day. On the good side, she’s got the right genes to make a good kid, but I don’t believe this will work. I plan just to delay this until she dies. As cruel as that sounds. And I can’t explain my reasons to Rylan because he’s all big brother judgemental, and god forbid I talk to Malek about this. He’s worse. I won’t be surprised if I woke up one morning and heard that Roanna was killed. And I wouldn’t be upset by it. I just haven’t told him that I’d be okay with it because he would not hesitate. I plan to really isolate her like a prey in a lion’s den. “Zane, are you even listening to me?” “I’m sorry, Rosa is ripping through Aspen’s favorite book,” I said while laughing. Rylan spun immediately to get the book out of the chaotic princess’s hands. She was a darling, almost one but my god, she destroyed a lot of things just because she could. She was cute. A little tyrant. She was a wave of destruction compared to the calm Xavier who just glides by life drinking apple juice like a sweetheart. I love her. I want a child like that. A daughter, maybe. I’d hone over her like an overprotective father. I mean I’m going to do the same for Rosa. My niece can just glare at someone and I’d consider them dead meat. If I get boys draconia will not know peace. Trust me, I will raise them to be as loud and as proud as me. “Stop ripping... princess,” Rylan says gently. She’s not like Xavier was when he was a baby. She’ll fuss if she has to, and she won’t stop until you give her what she wants. An evil genius. “Well, Aspen can forget all about her book because I don’t have the heart to tell her to stop.” “Right. And you were such a hardass with me. Better reel that in, brother. Remember you were light with Malek and now he’s a self-centered prick.” “Language. And I promise I’ll do better. Don’t change the subject.” he picked Rosa out of her crib, and she released the book. Deciding to grab onto her father’s beard. Now that is something Xavier did. “I’m not changing my mind, Rylan. I want her to suffer.” “I raised you, I know there’s more to this than your personal anger. You’re hiding something. Do you think I’d judge? What is it?” “I’m an angry person. I don’t like that she thought she could fool me, and I will go to great lengths to teach her a lesson.” he had that look, the one that said he doesn’t trust my word. Rylan’s such a dad. I rolled my eyes and got out of the chair. I should return to Soleria today. I should at least let my presence punish my wife. You know, wife by contract. I walked up to Rosa and kissed her cheek. “I understand, princess. Your dad is so overbearing but he means well.” she patted my cheek with her saliva-coated hands, and I was in awe. When I moved away I saw Rylan's deadpan look. “Right, I’m the one who's gonna spoil her,” he murmured. I shuffled away from the room, bowing to him and the future princess. I could mount a dragon to get to Soleria but I’m gonna fly instead. It’s much more fun. The flight didn’t give me the sense of calm I hoped for, because the second I returned to my first palace my anger felt ready to roar. She angers me. Just by existing. I followed her scent to the bathhouse Malek requested I put in. She wasn’t in the water, but the steam covered everywhere as she sat and let her feet soak. She looked confused like she was stuck with a list of unanswered questions. She finally noticed me, and her face went from confused to annoyed really fast. The nerve of this girl. “You know what, I’ve decided. I want a more domesticated wife.” she c****d up an eyebrow. “Domesticated?” “Yeah, so I’m going to make some changes. You’re gonna get a list of rules, kind of a chore list for a good ole wife.” “A chore list? What? You want me to cook dinner for you every night, clean up the master bedroom, and kiss you good morning?” “I love the sarcasm, but I'd think twice if I were you. Because I can tell you exactly where your twin is right now. I have eight people ready to wipe your family right now. You’re going to really hate ever crossing me by the time I’m done with you. I plan to design the best set of hell for any alpha imaginable. I will tear your hope, and if I even see a bit of happiness, I'll take right out.” Her whole face soured. I can be really vengeful, I promise she will regret her choices.
