I fell to my knees, overwhelmed by the realization of what I had almost done.
I had almost killed my beta while thinking that he was my enemy.
Tears mingled with the dirt and blood on my face as my beta reached out a hand to help me up.
“I thought you were…” my beta said as he stopped talking. “I’m just glad I didn’t kill you.”
“Me too,” I sighed.
We embraced, the weight of our shared experience and the strength of our bond intertwining in that moment.
