Damien's POV
I opened my eyes and saw big brown eyes staring back at me, a beautiful face with black hair on her face. She looked at me and smiled. To me, she was an angel, which meant that I was dead.
If that is the case, then I have managed to make it to heaven, which would mean that I was a good person, right?
" Oh good, you're awake," she said with a smile. Her eyes lit up.
" Am I in heaven?" I asked her.
" No, not yet, at least, but you would be if I wasn't there to help you. What happened to you? What were you doing on my property?" she asked me.
I looked around and realized that I was in what looked like a cabin, but I didn't know if I had been there before; it didn't feel familiar, and neither did she; not only that, but I had no idea what was happening around me.
I was lying on a couch, and next to a burning fireplace, I could smell the spices and herbs in the air. If I wasn't in heaven, there where was I? And why was I here? How did I end up here?
" What do you mean? Where am I?" I said to her.
" You were hurt badly when I found you," she said to me.
" Found me? Found me where?" I said to her.
I didn't know what she was talking about. I tried to get up, but I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder and abdomen, and I flinched in pain.
" Relax, you have stitches. If you move too quickly, you might cause more damage, I did what I could," she said to me. I grabbed her hand.
"Lady, what's going on here?" I said to her.
" Look, I found you outside in the snow last evening, you were hurt, and you told me not to call the police, look, if you are some kind of Criminal or murderer, remember that I helped you okay, I could have left you out there to die, but I saved you," she said to me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," I said to her and realized that I was grabbing her hand too tightly, I let go of her wrist.
I could see and feel that I was hurt, but I don't remember any of it. Why would I ask her not to call the police? I tried to think hard, but there was nothing there.
" I don't remember any of that, I don't remember much," I said to her.
" Can you at least tell me your name?" she asked me.
" Sure, I am... I'm... I am, I can't remember my name," I said to her. I felt an uneasy feeling as I tried very hard to remember my name but couldn't. Why couldn't I remember who I was?
" I think that you might be concussed. You had a nasty bruise on your head like you hit something," she said to me.
" What does all of that mean? That I won't know who I am?" I asked her.
" No, what I am saying is that we need to get you to a proper doctor who can explain all of this," she said to me.
" Then what are we waiting for?" I said and stood, for a moment; I forgot that I was hurt; the pain reminded me that I couldn't move around as I wanted, but I was not going to show weakness, not in front of this pretty lady. I sat back down slowly.
" Firstly you can't even walk, secondly, we are locked in the cabin, there's a snow storm and everything is out, and we can't even use the car, not only that but the only doctor in town is away for Christmas with his family, the nearest hospital is four hours away,
Look, I know I am not a doctor, but I have managed to keep you alive for a full day, which means that you won't die anytime soon," she said to me.
" Did you find anything on me? Anything that could tell where I was or what happened to me? My name, perhaps?" I asked her.
" Not much, just this," she said and went to the table. She gave me a necklace, I looked at it, and immediately I knew that it was mine. I don't know where or how I got it, but it felt right like it was meant to be with me at all times.
" This necklace, it's familiar..." I said and closed my eyes, I saw the necklace on a man's neck. His face was blurred out, but he seemed familiar. I tried to remember his face when an excruciating headache almost brought me to my knees.
" What's wrong? Are you in pain?" the woman asked me. I shook my head.
" s**t," she said and stood up. She ran up and came back a few minutes later with tablets and a glass of water.
" Take this, just half of it, okay?" she said to me.
" What is this?" I asked her through the pain.
" It will help," she said.
I took out one pill and broke it into half; I had the half and laid my head back on the couch; a couple of minutes later, the pain had numbed everywhere; it was like I was floating in the air.
" Damn woman, what the hell did you give me?" I asked her.
" You don't want to know, trust me," she said and took back the rest of the pills. I don't know if I have ever been on drugs, but I haven't, then I am sure this is what it felt like to be high.
" How are you feeling?" She asked me.
" Better, what's this stuff?" I asked her.
" Don't worry about it, I should tell you that it won't last for too long, four hours at the most," she said to me.
" That means that I can trace my steps from where you found me. Maybe I can find something about what happened to me, mostly about who I am," I said to her.
" I am afraid that won't be possible; we have a snowstorm; look outside," she said and pointed at the window, which half of was covered in snow.
" So we are stuck here?" I asked her.
" I am not the one who's stuck here. You are, this is my home," she said to me. I realized that I had been rude, I don't remember my name, but I didn't ask her about hers.
" Look, I'm sorry, I just realized that I don't even know your name," I said to her.
" You can just call me Chloe," she said to me. She didn't give me her last name. I looked at her hand and that is when I saw it, the ring on her finger. A huge diamond rock lay neatly on her hand.
The ring on her hand and this cabin didn't exactly go together; she told me that she found me last night, but she didn't say anything about her husband, which means that he is not here, but why?
I don't know if saving a complete stranger and doing all that she did was a brilliant idea; I mean, I don't know who I am or what I am capable of doing; all that I am saying is that she could have left me there to die, instead she helped me.
This means that this woman here was good. Now, what kind of a husband would let a beautiful and selfless woman like her spend the Christmas holidays alone in a place like this? I looked at my hand, there was no ring.
I didn't know if that was a good or bad thing, I mean, had I been married, then surely my wife would be looking for me, right? At least I would know that someone is out there thinking of me.
" Can I ask you something?" I said to her.
" Sure, ask away," she said to me.
" Why are you here alone? I'm sorry, but I assume that you are married," I said to her.
" I needed some time away, that's all," she said and stood up.
I was looking at her the entire time, and when she answered me, she couldn't look at me in the face, which meant she was lying.
" So your husband let you spend Christmas alone?" I said to her.
" It was my decision," she said, sounding defensive.
" Look, I am sorry, okay? You helped me, I have no right to ask you personal questions," I said and looked at the necklace in my hand.
I turned around the pendant, and there was an engraving in there. To My Son D.L.R
" Well, that's helpful," I said.
" What? What is it?" she asked me.
" There's an engraving here," I said and gave her the pendant.
" Yeah, it looks like initials, perhaps yours," she said to me.
" Could be. Do you have a laptop or phone I can use?" I asked her.
" I do have both, but I don't have any WiFi networks. The snowstorm took it out last night," she said to me.
" Damnit!" I said.
" Look, until the storm is over and the snow has melted, we can't go anywhere," she said to me.
I looked down, and I was wearing an old pair of tracksuit pants.
" Oh, I found those here. Yours were wet and torn," she said to me.
" I thought you said this was your home," I said to her.
" For now, it is; look, I made a bunch of food the other day. How about I fix you a plate?" she said to me.
Her answer was not a straight one. It's the second answer she has given me that doesn't seem like the truth. Why is she here all alone? Is she hiding?
" Yeah, I think that would be good," I said to her. I don't know why she is here, but it feels like she is running away from something, or someone, maybe even her husband. It would explain why he wasn't here with her.
I don't know what is going on with her, right now, my problems might be bigger than hers. She told me that I asked her not to call the police, why did I ask that of her? There has to be more to this.
I slowly got up from the couch; there was an old jacket on the chair. I took it and put it on. I followed her to the kitchen. The smell of spices and herbs was much stronger in there, I don't know, but I kind of liked it.
" I could have brought the food to you. You didn't have to come here," she said to me.
" I know, but I wanted to ask you something. Last night, did I tell you why I didn't want you to call the police?" I asked her.
" You said that they would find you," she said to me.
" Find me? Who are they?" I asked her.
" I don't know, that's all you said to me," she said to me.
