Chapter 7

Jefar's POV This morning wasn't as I have hoped for. Alpha Abasi made some lame excuses for his daughter not being there in his office when we gathered. I could see the panic in his eyes, but I will have to talk to him and remind him of the deal. Walking towards his office, I overheard him yelling at someone to get out of his office. When the doorknob made a creaking sound, I went back and slightly closed the bedroom door and waited for the person he was yelling at to pass. When I saw it was Maat going down the stairs, I concealed my scent and followed her to the river. She was mumbling to herself while taking off her clothes, remaining in her black underwear and plunged into the water. My pants went tight and my groin was in pain from seeing her bare skin. She let out a piercing scream, startling a group of teenagers near to her. I chuckled as she waves her hand stupidly at them. She swam to the riverbank like a dolphin and came out of the water, dripping wet from top to bottom. And settled on the ground without a care. Why the hell am I reacting to her wet caramel skin like this? f**k, all I could think of it's what I want to do to her slim curves. “You are drooling.” The low, gruff voice coming from behind me spoke. "And since when you react to a woman like that? Are you falling for her?" He added as he stood beside me. “I am not drooling, you imbecile. This is a beautiful nature I am admiring.” I lied, still staring at Maat. He hummed under his breath in response and stared. After some time, Tedros joined us, but he said nothing. I peeped at his serious expression with his hands in his pockets and wondered what was bothering him. “Why didn't you join her? It's a beautiful, scorching afternoon.” Walid broke the silence, and I jerked my head to his side. “It's best to watch from the distance and I don't want to scare her off with my giant parts,” I replied with a smirk when he grimaced at my comment. I turned my gaze back at her, then remembered. “What are you both doing out here, anyway?” I asked, seeing Maat getting ready to leave her spot. “I was looking for you to let you know the men want some action and this pack doesn’t have weak she-wolves for them to enjoy. When are we leaving, anyway?” I thought about what Walid said and peered at him. “Tell them to hold their manhood for a while. We will leave once I get what I want, understood?” I rumbled lowly. “Let's get out of here before my beautiful soon-to-be mate notices us,” I whispered as I walk away. Meanwhile, we stroll back from the river to the alpha's house. I realised Tedros hadn't spoken a word since he joined Walid and me. His forehead is wrinkled in deep thought. “Care to tell me what's on your mind?” I asked, raising my left brow. “There is a lot that is happening in my mind right now, and I doubt you will understand.” He sighed, kicking the pebble he almost stepped on. “Try me,” “Since we got to this place, I have this sense of peace and I wonder why alpha Abasi wants to move his people from here... I think he is hiding the real reason.” He whispered the last words. “His pack's finances are very low and he has nothing left to sell in the real world to keep them stable,” I answered him with a cocky grin. “But this stays between us because I have plans for him and his little pack.” I beamed while playing the events in my mind. We walked in silence until a short, lean figure stood in front of us, with her hands settling on her hips. “Alpha king Jefar.” She spoke, and I looked at her because she will speak her mind simply because she can't help herself. “Yes, pup,” I replied, trying to send my intimidation aura, but since she was little and without her wolf, it did not bother her. “Do you love my sister, or are you just taking her away from us for your selfish gain?” she asked, while her bold, prominent eyes pierced through mine. I glanced at Tedros and Walid disguising their strangled laughter with a clearing of their throats, but I ignored them. “It's none of your business, pup,” I responded casually. She raised her eyebrows and enlarged her eyes in mockery. “Oh no, alpha king Jefar, that's where you are wrong. Maat is my sister and her well-being is my business.” She said it as a fact. Tedros could not keep his laughter inside anymore. I sighed and bent down to her level, whispering in her ear. “You are too young to understand the meaning of love and too forward for your age.” I straightened myself, watching her lips twitch into a smirk. “Now go play with your friends,” I continued, using my wolf's voice, then sidestepped her and walked away while calling Tedros and Walid over my shoulder to follow me. The three of us walked to alpha Abasi's office with the two morons laughing. His office door was open, so I went straight to the sofa and sat. A tall, fine woman wearing a long dress with a slit on the side came in with a tray of herbal tea and cookies. She placed the tray on the table and handed me a cup before she left. Alpha Abasi joined me on the sofa. “Did you speak to your daughter?” I asked without looking at him as I drink my tea. “Not yet, but I hope she will respond soon.” His eyes looked everywhere except at me and took a cup from the tray. I kept quiet while nibbling on the cookies, wondering if my plan will go as I have projected in my mind. “What time is your pack shifting?” I have to prepare my men to join them as well. “In an hour. But if you are thinking of joining us, there is a clear ground at the back of the house where you will find us.” He explained. “Walid, inform everyone to get ready.” I interrupted his moment of sipping his tea. As soon as he left, I placed the cup on the tray and stood up from the sofa. “I need to sort out some few things in the bedroom.” I told Alpha Abasi as I straightened my jacket and nodded at Tedros, telling him to come with me. “You seriously are going to take Maat with you to our kingdom?” I stopped on my track and turned to look at Tedros. “Why do you have a sudden interest?” He chuckled lowly. “Just asking. You never do things unless there is a price in it.” I contemplated how to respond. “Well, I don't have an ulterior motive. If that's what you are thinking, it's just pure business.” He murmured okay and walked away. I shook my head sideways in wonder as I entered the bedroom to relieve myself. It was already 45 minutes when I walked to the clear ground behind the house. Alpha Abasi was giving his pack a pep talk. Standing next to him were Maat and the rest of his family. I stood next to Alpha Abasi as he ordered the pack to shift. There were different brown shades of wolves, but what caught my attention was Maat in her human form. I nodded to my men and shifted. My brown bushy wolf stood taller than the rest, which I expected. Alpha Abasi howled and all the wolves started running. I kept my gaze on her as she ran with the wolves, her speed matching that of her father's. Her youngest sister was on top of a dark brown wolf holding its fur and giggling. I averted my gaze to Maat. Doesn't she have a wolf? I asked myself, amused by her agility. It was a long run like in the forest; we ran through the clearing to the river, then come back to the back of the house. As soon as we got to the house, and shifted back. While everyone shuffled inside the dining hall to eat, I called alpha Abasi aside. “Why did your daughter remain in her human form? Doesn't she have a wolf?” I asked in confusion. “The only time she did was on her first shift. Since then, she never shifts and we never asked her why.” I nodded, but felt like he was hiding something from me. I can't have a Queen who doesn't want to be in her wolf form unless she is what I think she is. This is being an interesting perfect plan. All she has to do is to agree to my request and leave with me. While everyone was enjoying the meal, Maat whispered something to her father. He had a shocking angry look but cleared his throat to get everyone’s attention. “May I get everyone's attention?” He said and silence fell into the room. “Since you are all aware of the Alpha king's presence, he has agreed to sign off our partnership with his pack. However, he requested my daughter Maat to be his chosen mate and… she just accepted.” He said with a sad look. I was so excited and did not believe that she would consider being with me, even though she didn’t belong to me. But I am not complaining because my plan will soon be in motion. Tedros disturbed my thoughts by clapping his hands, and the rest of the pack followed while some howled in celebration. Alpha Abasi raised his hand, showing that he is not finished talking. “Since she agreed, she will leave tomorrow morning with the alpha King to spend a month in the palace with him and the rest of us will join her afterwards. We will soon leave this dimension to live in the real world.” There were gasps and whispers. “Alpha, why do we have to live in our homes? Our lives are here, and our ancestors are buried here.” An old man asked in disapproval. “Because if we don't leave this place, we will perish and our young generation needs to live their lives and learn how the real world works, and also they need to be exposed to education and independence.” He replied with hope in his eyes. “Do you know where this alpha king is going to place us? Have you accessed the land he is so willing to give us?”An old female spoke, increasing the mumblings between those who are fearing to speak. “I have not seen it, but I trust it will be worth our move.” He responded with a small smile on his face. My jaws tightened in agitation, hoping none of their doubts change Maat's decision. “Permission to speak, dad?” She broke the silence in the room and alpha Abasi nodded for her to speak. “I know this is overwhelming, and most of you are afraid of the unknown. But… if I will accept the unknown of the new environment, I believe all of you can. I have faith in all of you to take this opportunity to progress to better our lives and for the younger generation to grow mentally. I am also sure that our alpha will perform the ritual before you leave this realm, and as your soon-to-be queen in the unknown realm, I will be there waiting for your arrival. Please do not despair because everything will be alright.” She said, smiling and glancing at me. I stood up and spoke. “I assure you all of you will be taken care of as soon as you come to my kingdom.” There were cheers in the room. These wolves are fond of Maat. It was a beautiful sight to witness, especially how proud they were of her and joyful for her. She made them feel safe. I grinned at everyone celebrating. If only they knew what they were getting themselves into.
