Chapter Seven
Peter Rutledge had brooded a great deal since his wife’s untimely departure. He seriously considered his own failing in the matter, often wondering what he’d done to cause her rebellion. James and Robert suggested that her fall from grace was simply an unfortunate character flaw for which he was not responsible. Logan, when he was around, made typically snide remarks about Peter’s ruined marriage. Of his siblings, Veronica seemed the most compassionate; but that was only because his sister hated her rival, and it pleased her to know that she was finally gone. The endless squabbles between the two started when Victoria became the new ‘darling’ of the company advertising department.
