KALEB
I stared at the front door as the snow hit me.
I wasn’t expecting Demi to act like this.
“You’re a moron,” muttered Shadow, “you should have left her alone in school.”
I groaned.
I knew what he was on about, but it was three years, and I thought she would have gotten over what I did back then to her.
I have to admit I was an ass to her.
I wanted to find my mate. As for her to be my mate, I never thought about it until a few months ago when Alpha Troy found his mate, and the other guys found theirs too. I hated being the third wheel to the others.
I thought she would be someone I knew, but Demi wasn’t here as she went to her aunt’s place as she went to college. I liked her, and the only way I knew how to get her attention was to pick on her. I made sure no man went near her.
“Let me in, Demi,” I called out again as a cold shiver ran through me, bringing me back to the present and making me remember I was still outside the house.
The door moved back slowly, and I watched closely as I was met with fiery green eyes staring at me, and wasn’t looking too happy that I was here.
Fuck.
Shadow howled in my head as he stared at her.
Demi moved the door back, stood rooted to the spot, and her eyes bore into mine.
I couldn’t help but take her in. She looked stunning, she had muscle in all the right places, and her legs looked like they went on for miles, but it was hard to tell with all the clothes she had on.
My eyes traveled all over her body until I returned to her eyes.
“Done looking,” she hissed as she rolled her eyes, looking unimpressed.
“Mate pissed,” muttered Shadow.
I stepped closer, but Demi shook her head.
“I don’t need you…” she said, but I used my speed, pushed my way inside, and pinned her to the wall behind her.
Her eyes widened as I pressed my body against her, sending sparks running through me.
I leaned my head into the crook of her neck and breathed in her scent, which sent my c**k into a throbbing mess.
“Mate,” I groaned.
Demi’s heart beats faster as I press my lips to her neck.
Demi clears her throat, making me pull back slightly to look at her.
I stare into her green eyes as she licks her bottom lip, which does more to me than anything else I had ever imagined over the years when my feelings for her came flooding back.
I wanted her back then, but now she was mine, and no one would ever have her.
It felt like time had stood still for a moment, but as I was about to say something, Demi moved her leg and connected her knee to my nuts, which were sent up high into my abdomen.
I groan as I nearly fall on her, but she moves aside as I place my hand to my nuts, as my other hand goes to the wall to hold myself up.
Fuck, I need my nuts to come down.
Over the next few seconds, I heard the door close, which made me look over my shoulder as I moved to turn to look at my mate, who looked like she wanted to put my nuts in a vice.
“That’s for calling me little mate,” she said c*****g her head to the side as she took me in.
“What the hell…” I started to say, but she growled.
A smirk itched the corners of my mouth as I watched her.
“You,” she said as she stepped closer to me, “are a jackass and made my life hell in school, so why should I be your mate?”
I stare at her dumbfounded.
“Dem,” I said, “I didn’t mean to be an ass, I…” I stopped myself. How the hell was I going to tell her I acted like that because I liked her and didn’t want anyone else to have her without sounding like an i***t?
“You are an i***t,” Shadow grunted.
I frowned.
Demi looked at me with a slightly amused look on her face.
“What?” I asked.
“You need to leave,” she said, making her face blank.
I shook my head.
“I promised your mum I would look after you,” I said, which was a lie.
Alpha Troy and Luna Bree were cornered by her parents, telling them that she was coming home and that her car was stuck in the snow, which made her walk to the house.
Troy and I have been best friends since junior school, and he is the only one that knows how I have felt about Demi.
I can remember him mind-linking me, telling me everything that was going on, “hey, loverboy,” he called through a mind link, “guess whose back in the pack?”
I knew who it was and he didn’t have to tell me. He asked me to leave and head to her house, so she wasn’t alone.
“Leave,” she gritted out, pulling me back from my thoughts.
“Nope,” I grinned and stepped closer to her.
“I’m not leaving, sweetheart,” I said, “I’m here to look after my mate; you will have to throw me out.”
Demi glared at me.
She stared for a few moments but huffed out and stooped her foot in frustration, which was highly amusing to watch.
“f**k you,” she grits out.
“Will do soon, sweetheart,” I say, a little too quickly, which didn’t go down well as her face went straight to anger.
“You better stay out of my way,” she sneered, “I’m having a shower.”
I grinned.
“Do you want me to…” I said, but she growled, making me stop what I was going to say. “Don’t finish that sentence,” she said as she walked away from me, grabbed one of the bags near me, and headed up the stairs.
I hear her footsteps on the stairs, and she slams the door as she gets to the bathroom.
I let out a breath I had no idea I was holding.
I opened a mind link to Alpha Troy.
“Hey, man,” he says, “how did it go?”
“She’s my mate,” I muttered as I walked over to the lounge and sat on the couch.
“Knew it,” he shouted, and other links opened up as the other guys piped up.
“Called it,” shouted Rowan.
I groan.
They all had their suspicions about Demi and me.
“How did she act when she saw you?” asked Elias, amused.
“Oh, it went well,” I gritted out, “if you call, having the door slammed in my face and her kneeing me in the nuts perfect, then it did.”
They all laugh.
I grunted.
After they all calmed down, I let out a sigh.
“What the hell am I going to do now?” I asked.
There was silence, but Elias spoke.
“Well, the snow is going to get heavy, if it gets worse, you will be stuck together, and she will have to talk to you,” he said.
“Yeah, but what if…” I started to say, but Troy cut me off, “Kal, whatever happens, I will keep you two together, but I suggest you tell her why you acted the way you did. It was the wrong move to make, but you liked her back then; make it up to her now and tell her how you feel about her.”
I stayed quiet, trying to take all the advice I could.
“I checked the app,” called out Rowan, “the snow will get heavier, and it will get worse.”
“I have to think…” I said, but I stopped and was pulled back as I heard a noise from upstairs; the water was running, and she was in the shower.
I looked over to the open-plan kitchen.
An idea came to mind.
“Guys, I will let you know how it goes,” I said, closing the link down before any of them could say anything back.
I got up and walked to the kitchen. I looked through cupboards, pulling out things I needed to make.
She had a long drive; I could make food for us, a peace offering to her, and we could start again and talk, maybe more.
Shadow was on board, even though we wanted to go upstairs to see her, but I didn’t fancy fishing my nuts from my abdomen again.
I shuddered at the thought and got on with the cooking.
