Chapter 13 PainI WAS suddenly startled when my cellphone rang again without saying a word. "Hello?" I opened my mouth wide. "Hey, Babe." I immediately peeked at the registration number before I became very quiet. Why didn't I look at who was calling first?! "Please Rexon, not now," I murmured. "Be at my house tomorrow at eight in the morning." He ordered. "What? No! Who says I agree with what you want, huh?!" I answered bluntly. "I do." He countered back. I rolled my eyes and rubbed my head in pain. "I said no! I will never be your personal assistant. Isn't it enough that you used me just to get through your issue?" "That is why I'm here to help you." "Well, I don't need your help," I said firmly. He paused for a moment on the other line before speaking again. "I'll wait for you till 10 sharp." After that he dropped the call. I just sighed and got up to continue buying coffee. * * * * * "Dad, you must be strong so that you can recover quickly." I said it enthusiastically as I fed him breakfast the next morning. "Thank you daughter, have you eaten? " he asked me. "I ate earlier before you woke up," I answered lightly. He stared into my eyes first before accepting the porridge in the spoon. "All right, you got into your job. I can handle myself here." He started. "I won't go in first, my boss called last night." I avoided him when I thought my cellphone rang in my pocket that I did not answer. "I'll take care of my food, go ahead and answer the caller earlier, it might be important." He forced me to take the bowl of porridge. Even though I didn't want to, I was forced to give the bowl to him. I said goodbye for a moment to answer Rexon's call. "Where the hell are you? Why don't you answer my calls?" He seems angry on the other line. "And who the hell are you for me to answer your call?!" I'm shot back. I heard he blew out a breath and murmured something I didn't get. "Please Rexon, can you leave me alone? After all, the media has no problem with me anymore. I have too many problems for you to add!" I said sharply. "What is the problem?" He is now speak in his soft but serious tone. My tongue immediately stuck out. I never expected to hear her soft and emotional voice again. "Tell me..." he asked again so I closed my eyes firmly. "It's none of your business. Please just leave me alone." In the end I just let out a heavy sigh. "Fine, I will give you time to decide. It is also not a joke that you will be paid." He still insisted. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before answering. "My answer is still no." After that I turned off the call. I just leaned against the wall for a few more minutes and closed my eyes tightly to calm myself before entering Dad's room. I want to face him vigorously so that he does not have to think about what I have. I also thought a few times about the last thing he said about the big salary I will receive when I enter as his P.A. But I put it aside because I knew I was not the object of that job. "Oh Miss. Cherry good thing you are here!" The Doctor looking at my father and greeted me. "Good morning." "I want to announce that anytime now and the operation can be done on Daddy. The earlier the operation the more there is a good chance that it will succeed, because it looks like your father will recover quickly." The doctor said cheerfully to us. My lips parted for a moment while my gaze remained on the physician. "Excuse me, I just want to go home." Dad said as I turned to him. "Ah – Doc, maybe we can talk outside first?" I stopped the physician who's trying to talk to Dad. "Yes, sure!" hee said goodbye to Dad before I followed him out. "Miss. Cherry, didn't I tell you that Daddy can no longer be taken home because it would be too risky if you did that?" Introduction of the doctor to me. "Dad insisted, but I would like to ask for a little more time to find money." I pleaded. "Cherry, the sun is shining brightly. Right now I can say that Daddy is still fine but I also can't say that his condition will continue to improve in the future. He may be got an heart attack again, which is that we do not know what can happen." she said seriously. I sighed here so it was quiet for a while. "As her attending physician I will not charge the Doctors fee first, even if you pay half first to complete Daddy's operation I will accept." The young Doctor smiled at me. Immediately my face lit up at what I heard. But when I realized how much he was half saying, I felt depressed. "1Million?!" My God Cherry where can you find such a large amount of money?! "Jacky almost shouted at me on the other line as I talked to him outside the Hospital. "That's the problem, where can I get it?" I looked up at the sky and nicely squeezed my senses due to the headache. "What if you can borrow from Calixto?" "Huh?! Are you out of your mind ?!" I blurted. "Maybe you can lend it, that's not bad at all." She convinces me. "Jacky, 1Million. Are you kidding? He won't spend that much money just to lend it to me!" "Okay! But there's nothing wrong with trying, right? You know he'll give both of you? Heart and Money?" she teasingly said that I smiled at her. I shook my head. I don't know what i really do right now. But I never lose hope for my father. "Thanks for the visit. You take care okay?" I said and wave at her goodbye. I decided to go back inside the Hospital. I started going inside when I heard the speaker's voice being heard throughout the Hospital. "Paging Doctor Cecile Herrera, please proceed to Intensive care unit." Suddenly there was a tremor in my chest when I heard my father's physician. I took big steps down the aisle to Dad's room and there my knees suddenly weakened from seeing the door closed and the nurses and Doctor inside the ICU. "My God!" I scratched my forehead as I walked around the hallway with fear. I don't know where to turn my gaze, it seems like I just want to lose consciousness now due to extreme nervousness. "Cherry!" I turned to the voice that called to me. It was as if my heart jumped when I saw Calixto approaching me. "My dad..." I weakly said. I immediately hugged him and without saying a word I cried on his wide shoulder. "Sshh... He'll be alright," he whispered to me as he stroked my hair. "What should I do? I can't lose him. He's the only one left for me Calix!" I sobbing. "I know. .. I know," he said softly as he hugged me tightly. There the door opened and my father Gorio's attending physician spat. "I'm sorry, we did everything. But all we should need now is a heart transplant." "The patient is in a comma. His vital sign was flat line earlier when he had a heart attack, which is' cause a loss of oxygen to his brain. I'm sorry to say but the only chance we have now is 50/50. " She said sadly. There I went inside and heaven and earth seemed to fall when I saw the device attached to his body. "Dad." I cried loudly. "He was okay before, we talked earlier!" My voice was almost hoarse when I spoke. Calix's palm felt on my shoulder but it could not contain the pain that was engulfing my heart. "I will try my best to help you, I will help with your Dad's surgery." He calmly promised while he was by my side. I immediately looked up at him as if I could not believe what he said. "Calix..." I said in between my sob. He just only gave me a nod. I can also feel it gently squeezing my shoulder.
