"Damn you, Kendrick!" I cussed under my breath as the cold floor touched my already wet body.
The room was dark and shallow with only two small windows for ventilation.
How could he treat me so cruelly just because I refused to do as he asked. Tonight was our first night as a married couple, yet he chose to make it torturous.
I didn't know if I should blame my parents for subjecting me to such pain or if I should blame myself for agreeing to it.
I curled myself and rubbed my palm against each other to get some warmth. However, no matter how hard I rubbed, I couldn't warm myself up.
I could hear the chattering of my teeth as I shivered. The floor was cold and I had only a wet robe on. The windows were open to let the breeze in. The autumn breeze was super cool that night.
It felt as if the universe was working together to punish me for a crime I didn't commit.
"Let me out, please!" I begged, throwing every composure out the window.
I was on the verge of freezing to death. How could I still remain composed?
"Lord Kendrick!" I called at the top of my lungs, but all I heard was the echo of my own voice. "Please let me out." I begged.
I was out of option and I knew that if I was to survive this then, I had to plead.
However, that monster didn't even spare me a glance. His underlings were no less. They had no ounce of mercy.
My whole body felt as if it would become icy in the next minute. I was freezing and there was no way to get warmth.
I blew some air on my palm to keep me warm, but the air in my mouth was also cold. There was no hope nor way to keep myself warm.
I closed my eyes to sleep as I was tired from struggling too much. The physical and emotional stress was starting to take it's toll on me.
"Ouch!" I jumped up as I was bitten by something unknown.
I looked around the dark room in search of what but me, but I couldn't see. As if to answer the question in my heart, I heard a squeaking sound that informed me what my attacker was.
I had been bitten by a rat.
"Let me out, please!" I banged the door in horror.
If I could get bitten by a rat in this room, I wonder what more was in there. The room was too dark to see or know what else was lurking in the dark.
"Please!" I cried, letting the tears flow freely from my eyes. "Let me out. I'll do anything you want."
There was no response from Kendrick or his underlings, no matter how loud I called. It all came back to me as an echo.
I was forced to keep my mouth closed as something flew into my opened mouth. I caught it in my hand and discovered that it was a cockroach.
I immediately put my finger in my mouth to force me to puke as I felt irritated, yet nothing came out but saliva. I hadn't eaten a single meal the entire day.
I cried with my mouth closed, tears kept flooding my face at my pitiful situation. How do I get out of this? I cried until there was no tears to shed.
I didn't know how long it had been until I finally fell asleep on the cold floor.
Though, I was shivering. I couldn't help falling asleep as I was exhausted.
"No!" I jumped up again as I was bitten again. This time I heard more squeaking that informed me that the rats were many.
The cockroaches didn't spare me either. They covered my whole body.
"Off. Get off me!" I yelled as I tried to get them away from my body. "Please get off!" I begged to no one.
I was allergic to cockroaches, yet I couldn't keep them away from myself. I couldn't even see them. I shook my body to get rid of them, but they were as stubborn as their master, Kendrick. They wouldn't budge.
I walked from one corner of the room to the other to fend off the rodents. My feet were heavy, yet I dragged them to keep moving. I couldn't let my feet become food for the rodents.
"You'll survive this," Zara finally spoke in my head. She probably sensed my suicidal thoughts.
"You think I can?" I asked through chattering teeth. My clothes dripped with cold water. I didn't need to be told how much of a monster Kendrick was.
"You will," Zara added, making me sigh.
She kept me distracted from the situation for a little while as she spoke to me. I didn't realize how long had passed until I heard footsteps. The door of the dark room opened and some men stepped in.
"You can go out now," they announced as they let me out.
It was finally dawn.
I dragged my body out of the room and hurried towards the house. I couldn't wait to soak myself in warm water and rid myself of the cockroaches that still lingered on me.
I rushed to the door and attempted to open it, but the door wouldn't budge. I shook the door with my strength but it didn't open.
"You can't go in ma'am," a maid announced as she passed by me.
"Why?" I asked under my breath. I was running out of strength and my boy itched badly from being touched by so many cockroaches.
"The key has been changed." She announced.
My eyes widened at the information. I mean, how did he do that in such a short period?
"Where is he?" I muttered, gathering the last of my energy.
"In the gym." Seeing the look on the maid's face, I knew that Kendrick was up to something.
"Where is the gym?" I asked and she pointed at a tall building also located in Kendrick's estate.
"Over there." I followed her eyes and I became speechless.
I hurried towards the gym with the little energy left in me, but as soon as I arrived at the elevator, i saw the note that showed that the elevator wasn't working temporarily.
I shook my head at Kendrick's wicked act. How could he be so cruel to want me to go so high up just to get the key to my room.
