Quarrels.
For years, the guards of the installation worked hard to keep nosey interlopers away from the base. Millions of taxpayer dollars went into securing the perimeter with motion and vibration detectors and an extensive array of multi-spectrum cameras. These were now useless, as orders had come from Missus Robinson to let anyone that approached the base to enter, to abandon the perimeter and fall back to the base buildings.
The security force questioned the orders to one another, but no contact was made above the director of the base, Missus Robinson. There is a saying in the military, it takes a thousand attaboys to erase one aw s**t, and one aw s**t to erase a thousand attaboys. No one wanted to be the whistleblower when the whistleblower might be ground into the earth.
