ELINA
Eight months have passed almost without noticing it, and I have discovered in this time that it is more exhausting to try to keep the secret of my arduous training to my family and to the members of my pack , than the training itself, and that is because, despite the numerous and constant warnings of my parents about wandering alone through the forests that surround the limits of the kingdom, it was the only place I was going to be able to train peacefully, without anyone noticing and starting to ask questions that would result in an interrogation by my parents, and consequently them deciding to put me under extreme vigilance so I wouldn't do anything reckless again.
As it has happened a few times in the past, when I would sneak into the forest to look for tiny animals, or the times when I injured myself climbing trees or trying to pick up a fight with kids way larger than me.
Every day I have gone to training after doing my mandatory tasks in the pack, which since I was sixteen years old have consisted of assisting the pack nurse , who is my mother, in the small pack's infirmary, and although there are days when there is not a single thing that involves the healing powers of her miraculous hands, we usually do other types of work in those moments free of injuries, such as sewing damaged clothes for my dad and brothers, cleaning the infirmary facilities, which was a very easy task, and on less fortunate days we have to go to the kingdom hospital when they were short on staff.
Which usually happens after the king's warriors raids to try to kill Rogues, or after a fight with a neighboring pack, and there have even been times when we have to attend wounded warriors after one of those huge fights, that usually start after some of the packs of our own kingdom gather together to train, werewolves tend to be really temperamental and they start fighting over the most insignificant things.
So, after doing my job at the infirmary with my mom, I would have a light snack and run off to the forest, taking advantage of the fact that my father and brothers were out at work guarding the eastern border of the kingdom, and Mom was already starting to prepare dinner for all of us, so I only had a couple of hours of quiet time before everyone came home for dinner and noticed my absence.
My routine consisted of going the first week of each month to spy on the training of the elite warriors of the kingdom, hidden at the edge of the forest that surrounds the palace, between bushes, or in the treetops, I tried to carefully study every detail of the training and to memorize all the movements I thought would be useful for the competition, and then I spent the rest of the month trying to learn each of those movements and perfect them, practicing with tree trunks which resulted in injured hands and knees, but it is all worth it if I can play a significant role at the competition.
The plan worked perfectly well for the first six months, until one day when I had been very busy because they called us from the hospital to assist them after a bloody fight that took place on the edge of the kingdom, between some lookouts and a small group of Rogues who were trying to enter the kingdom, unfortunately, most of the watchers were omegas, so many of them simply could not defend themselves against the attack of these violent beasts, and the few who managed to survive before the backup arrived from a group of elite warriors, they had horrible wounds that turned my stomach and even managed to impress my mother, who has worked as a nurse for years and has seen really horrible injures.

After leaving the hospital, my mother came home, and I slipped into the woods to start my training for the day, I was so absorbed in my thoughts that I had not noticed the change in the air which was a clear indicator that I was not alone in the forest, I didn't know that some warriors were patrolling the grounds in search of any Rogue that had managed to enter, or that was still prowling the limits of the kingdom waiting for the night to attack.
But, an even more serious problem was that my distraction prevented me from recognizing the different scent that was becoming more and more strong as I went further into the forest until a raspy voice that I could feel very close to my ear made me startled. and then immediately paralyze with fear.
"So … we came here looking for the traitor and here she is, coming straight for us, are you running from the usurpers, or are you just plain silly, kid?" I heard the Rogue say, and when I turned around he was towering big and scary a few inches above me, with an awful scent and scary looking face, a wild look, and a cruel sneer.
My body trembled so much that I thought I was going to fall apart at any moment, but as soon as the Rogue smirked at me and I saw his canines lengthening as his claws came out dangerously from his hands, which were turning more and more into two gigantic paws, my survival instinct kicked off and I ran as fast as I could, trying to make my wolf appear, something that I had never been able to achieve fully before.
And that is because only alphas and some betas manage to transform completely into their wolf forms, while the rest of us can only half transform, our canines , ears, and claws grow, our legs stretch a bit, and our senses heighten, especially our sight and smell, but that is all, a half transformed wolf can't match up to a fully transformed one, it would mean certain death.
And although alpha blood runs through my veins, and not only that, but also the blood of alpha kings and queens , I lacked the proper training to achieve a complete transformation, so I had no idea even how to do it, but the Rogue did very well knew how, he must have been an alpha or a beta in our fallen kingdom, but despise the noise that indicated that a full transformed werewolf was behind me I kept running, and when I allowed myself to glance back, I noted with horror that I was right and his transformation was complete.
Nevertheless, he was smaller than the wolves I have seen in our kingdom, but he was still completely transformed , which implied that I was at a disadvantage with my half transformation, and I cursed myself for not wanting to listen to my father and let alpha Roger train me for it, I simply refused to the idea arguing that I did not want to draw more attention to myself than the one I already received , and there is when I understood the serious mistake I made with my lack of judgment.
I felt a claw sweep my back, and I knew that the Rogue had finally reached me, I fell to the ground while I could not help the scream of horror that escaped from my lips, and in less than a second later, I felt the crushing weight of the Rogue on my chest , as he stood with his two paws resting on my torso cutting off all oxygen supply, and brought his drooling snout to my face while emitting growls that were too much like a cruel laugh.
I closed my eyes and remembered how affected my mother was in the morning when she saw the ravages caused by the Rogues, and I could only think of how sad my parents were going to be when they were handed over my shattered body just like the omegas who were in the hospital.
A portentous growl, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps, was all I could hear before I was almost totally unconscious due to lack of oxygen , and then a moment later I could breathe again, it was the strangest feeling in the world, as I would never have imagined that I could catch my breath one second and lose it the next, when I turned my face after hearing the final screech of the Rogue before he fell limp right next to me, and I saw the largest and most spectacular wolf I have ever seen in my entire life.
A gigantic beast with gray and brown fur, and green eyes that studied me with curiosity; but just before I could react and ask him who he was, my questions were answered by my alpha , Roger, who came running to our side in his wolf form, and as soon as he turned to the huge animal next to him, who made him look more like a common dog than like a wolf, he folded his front legs and bowed his head.
And at that moment I understood that I had just been saved by the crown prince, Bastian Vark.
