Chapter 5 October 1994 “Mom says she hasn’t heard from you about Thanksgiving yet.” For several seconds there was no sound but the whirr of empty tape from Gerry’s answering machine. “I know it’s tough for you, Ger. I know you’re still angry. But come for me. For the kids. It’s been ages since they got a chance to see you.” They were good kids, his sister’s brood. She had three of them already, and Gerry doubted Angie and her husband were anywhere close to stopping. She was doing right with them, but that didn’t surprise Gerry in the least.
