Hera finally managed to collect herself as she turned to the betas.
“I'm sorry you had to see that,” She muttered and her face was red with embarrassment. She couldn't believe she just cried like a baby in front of two of the most powerful werewolves in all of Blood-Stone.
“I'm grateful for— you know—”
It was difficult for her to get the words out but Knox helped to ease her burden by interrupting before she made a complete fool of herself— like she hadn't already.
“It's alright. Are you okay?” He asked and Hera was taken aback as his baby blue eyes shone with genuine worry.
“I'm-I'm fine,” She stuttered, turning to look at Asha who looked as awkward as she felt. It was clear that people crying made Asha uncomfortable. “I'm sorry. I'll return the handkerchief to you after I wash it.”
Asha shook her head, refusing to meet Hera's eyes. “It’s okay. You can keep it.” She said and Hera raised a disbelieving eyebrow.
“Really?”
Asha let out an annoyed sigh. “Yes, really.”
“Thanks!” Hera exclaimed more out of shock than excitement and Knox looked between the two women with amusement shining in his eyes.
“You two would make such good friends.” He commented and Hera's eyes went wide just as Asha snorted.
“What?”
“Excuse me?”
The two women said at the same time and Knox just shook his head, chuckling. Sometimes, Hera feared for Knox's safety. She didn't know if the careless way he spoke and acted around Asha was bravery or stupidity.
Or maybe they had just known each other for so long. At this point, she still couldn't tell if they were siblings or not or if they were at least related and her curiosity on the matter piqued by the day.
If looks could kill, the cold glare Asha currently shot Knox's way was enough to take him six feet under.
“Alright, enough of your nonsense, Knox,” Asha spat. “Tell her why we are here and let's get the hell out of here.”
“Fine.” Knox grumbled before turning to Hera and the prisoner looked in confusion from one beta to another.
“Tell me what?” She demanded.
“We believe you, alright. We believe that you and your parents were attacked by werewolves and we're sorry for your loss. Asha was not fully convinced but seeing you cry has probably melted her ice-cold heart.” Knox said and Hera's eyes widened. She wasn't sure she heard him right.
“Shut up, Knox.” Asha said through gritted teeth as she slowly turned red with embarrassment.
“Y-You two believe me?” Hera stammered, unable to believe her ears and the two betas nodded.
“I do,” Asha answered quietly. “I think you're telling the truth and we'll try everything we can to plead your case with the king and let you go free.”
Hera let out a gasp and her eyes were as wide as saucers. “Really?!” She exclaimed. “You'd do that for me?!”
“Unfortunately.” Asha muttered under her breath and Hera was beside herself with joy. She couldn't believe it! The betas were actually going to plead on her behalf. There was a huge chance that she could get out of this place.
“Oh! Thank you so much!” She exclaimed, throwing her arms around Asha which seemed like a big mistake as the left-hand beta went completely still.
“Get off me!” She yelled and Hera was startled by the suddenness of it all as she jumped abruptly away from Asha.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you.” Knox chuckled, his eyes glinting in amusement.
Hera raised her hands, still completely taken aback. “You're not a hugger. Got it. I’m sorry.”
“She absolutely hates hugs.” Knox chipped in helpfully and Hera wondered if there was anything Asha even liked.
Asha cleared her throat. “Never do that again, got it?”
“Got it.” Hera replied, placing her hands down slowly. This woman was truly terrifying. In her opinion, she was even more terrifying than the alpha king.
“Let's go, Knox!” Asha barked as she made her way to the front door.
“If you need anything, ask the guards to find me, alright?” Knox whispered, flashing Hera a bright smile which she had no choice but to return.
“Alright. Thanks…again.” She muttered and Knox’s beautiful eyes lingered on her for about a second before he responded.
“You're welcome.” He replied before turning around and leaving.
Hera let out a huge sigh, crashing on the big couch which was now her favorite. She could finally enjoy some peace and quiet by herself. The last few days and weeks had been shitty to say the least and now things could finally begin to look up for her.
She would finally get out of this room and find a way to get those werewolves that murdered her parents. She knew she needed allies to find the killers. She knew next to nothing about Blood-Stone and she needed trustworthy allies that could point her in the right direction.
She was hoping the betas could become those allies. Knox seemed like he could be convinced, but on the other hand, there was cold, ruthless Asha. How in the world was she supposed to get that cruel woman on her side? She had absolutely no clue.
The fact that Asha believed her story didn't mean that she would be willing to help her find the killers. She knew that much and she let out a long sigh. What was she supposed to do?
Hera thought long and hard about it and she finally came up with an answer. She would try to convince Knox to help her and once she got him on her side, maybe Asha would have no choice to join in too. The two seemed to be inseparable after all.
She let out a loud sigh, hoping that it would work. It truly had to work for her sake because at this point, she was running out of options and time. She couldn't stay in this place any longer. She needed to get out.
